If the newer Reader line has no reflection/blur while retaining touch screen, I would pick it up in a new york minute. (I can dream, can't I?)

I'd like to see a touch screen (like the 700's) without the built in front-light.

I admit I'm surprised to hear me say that, but after seeing the 700, the light panel simply gives up too much legibility for my taste.

I know the touch screen gives up some too, but that by itself has got to be better than one is combined with the light panel, right?

I have an idea for a very nice, low-powered, NON-battery operated light for the PEZ and other readers, but I won't know how well it'll work until I have the unit in hand.

I'll hopefully have more info in a month or so

Just when I was about to give in a purchase the 505, this since the 505 has been suspended as well as the 700 is the general belief is that the 505 is being upgraded? Do members think sony will eventually get out of ebooks, should I start considering the Kindle?

Okay, so I'm back. I love my sony it goes with me everywhere. But I checked out the Kindle, i'm from canada so no kindle from the canadian site, so i go to the U.S. site a little strange I can't order the kindle but I can order the kindle dx, i double check the canadian sony site I can still purchase the 505, but the 700 is listed as out of stock...so my quandry do I buy the 505 while something is for sale or do I wait in hopes that a new edition is coming out expiditiously.. hopefully Aug. 1st. any opinions.

That date is 5 days from now. It's very unlikely that Sony can announce a new device and have it ready to ship within 5 days.

Well, technically, if they had the new device already produced and stocked, it could happen, but that would only be if all of their contacts/sellers/stores/employees could keep the lid on something like this.

I do not see this happening.

Re-emphasizing that the silver and red PRS505s are still available from SonyStyle, it's just the blue 505 and 700 that's aren't.

You might still want to go ahead and buy the 505's if you don't care about having a touchscreen or any other new developments like Wifi. The 505 is an excellent device and even has a crisper screen than the 700. I know a lot of members here are very happy with it. Like vivaldirules has said, there is a lot of conjecture contained in this thread. Sony is playing their cards pretty close to the vest right now.

I am glad you found MR and I am sure you will find a great deal of information that will be helpful to you once you do get your readers.

I still think the 505 would be a great buy right now if it's not important to you to have a touchscreen, wifi, etc. A lot of people who looked at the 700 ultimately chose the 505 because of the crispness of the display. There is a bit of a glare on the 700 that you have to get used to. I know I went back to the Sony display at Borders several times before I decided that having the touchscreen was something that I really wanted.

The Blue 505 is still available as well just with some added books at no extra cost.
