I will come for you at nighttime
I will raise you from your sleep
I will kiss you in four places
I'll go running along your street
I will squeeze the life out of you
You will make me laugh and make me cry
And we will never forget it
You will make me call your name
And I'll shout it to the blue summer sky
And we may never meet again
So shed your skin and let's get started
And you will throw your arms around me
Yeah, you will throw your arms around me

(Mark Seymour/Hunters & Collectors - Throw Your Arms Around Me, 1985)

Oh, this thread is the best! I think that music is the underlining guide to life itself, so when it comes to love, the musical tastes of both parties matters immensely.

First slow dance, with a guy way out of my league that intimidated me beyond reason: Stairway to Heaven. It was soooo long, I could not wait for it to end, and am still stuck to this day with some disdain to that particular song, although I'm a big Led Zep fan.

Then my first true love was Peruvian, 6 years older than me and not really fluent in French. He would recite me poetry in Spanish under the stars and sing me love songs so we could dance...we would listen to sappy Hispanic pop, like Christina Aguilera's first album. I hated it, but it didn't matter, he was so perfect! Then I found out he was ultra "macho", which clashed noisily against my sense of independence.

Then there was The Tea Party guy; the only thing we listen to was that band, and we saw them in concert a couple of times together also. I don't know if we were more emotionally involved with each other or with the band...

Ooh, and another Led Zep relationship: our song was "You shook me". It was fun.

Now I'm seeing someone who listens mainly to punk and 80ies metal. I'm usually ok with it, mostly with some of the punk, but my ears bleed every time I hear Run to the Hills (my goal, with Iron Maiden, is to sing the loudest and worst possible so he stops listening to it). Our common music ground is classic rock, and if we ever get married, it going to be on The Doors's Touch me (it's a given that it will be my wedding's song, whoever's the groom )

VR, that was one of the most mellow versions of Touch Me I've ever heard.

Loving this thread. Here's mine, the song that was playing when I was with the girl, and the song that just sums up that whole time

also a close second was this one:

Pearl Jam... Ten is still their best album in my mind!
After it all ended, were you singing "Hey I...I'm still Alive" on the top of your lungs?

I have a song for every woman I've ever known, and one for every woman I've stopped knowing That would make a good album (although quite depressing)

Not necessarily, all those woman had their share in making you the man you are right now. I think it would be a wonderful collection of songs!

I associate music, faces, memories and feelings so easily that every single song I listen to has a story...

And that's how I write all my stories (well, almost all of them)

it took me years to listen to tom waits again without feeling unbearably sad. it's why i missed his concert before last one in paris, although i really wanted to go i knew i would cry the whole time. of all the musicians who marked the story of my greatest love, he did the most. the fact that i kept listening to him despite it is a tribute to his genius. there are a few bands that i just couldn't listen to anymore after a breakup.

The late Bob Gibson always said to write the song about the woman when you met and were in the first blush of love. That way if you broke up, you still had the song.
