How many People here are using Windows 7 Right now

Well after being more or less away for a few weeks (I'm not sure how I survived ), I'm back and and got thinking about what I've been quiet excited over the last few months.

I'd been quiet excited about Windows 7 after all the good things i'd heard about it so was pretty quick to get a Key and download the Beta.

I Initially installed Win7 as a dual boot with Windows XP as I was pretty leery on being completely dependent on Beta software for mission critical stuff, especially as I only have one Computer currently.

Going in It was a pretty pleasant experience, especially as Vista on that same machine was horrible, and I decided to try and use it as my primary OS for a while to see how it handled it. I did add a bit of instability by running Firefoc 3.1 Beta 2 as my primary Browser

Going back to XP full time a week before RC due to some instabilities with the beta, and not wanting to reinstall it twice in 2 weeks was quiet a revelation. XP which I used to love looked and felt horrible. I couldn't find anything, and everything too ages to do.

So First day of the RC, Win7 was back, on a larger Partion so I could install more Apps, and has been my Primary OS since, only logging into XP to upgrade my iPhone.

I've so far got 4 copies of Win7 on order to upgrade all my families PC's as soon as I can, especially to reduce future support headaches.

So My question to to you all is ,

How many of you are already using Windows 7, and what do you think about it?

I have it installed on 3 machines (netbook, laptop and desktop). All are dual or multiboot computers. So far I'm very happy with Win 7 and plan to stop using my XP and Vista installs in the next few weeks (though I'll still have the discs should I need to re-install the old OSes).

I've been using Windows 7 on a couple of my PCs here since the original beta, and like it a lot. I skipped Vista in favor of staying with XP, but it looks like MS got it right this time.

I'm sticking with XP until the wheels fall off. Vista was an awful OS, I'll let Windows 7 get a couple years in before I decide whether to switch to it or have to go with a Mac

I use Windows XP, Debian Linux (Lenny), Mac OS X. Of those three, debian is the best for running a web server by far, OS X is the best for work/internet/music/video/programming and XP is the best games machine.

I'm hoping that Windows 7 actually catches up to OS X in terms of productivity and OS features. Then I'll be able to use windows for more than computer games maybe. Windows just seems 3-4 years behind OS X now, and while Windows 7 is faster (than XP) they are still sticking with registry/old disk formats and still have 5 versions of the operating system.

Edit: if you want to reduce support calls from family, switch them to macs. I still get calls from windows owning family members who get into trouble with viruses, OS slowdown, unable to install something and registry issues, the ones I've converted to mac skip all of those problems.

I am using Windows 7 64-bit on my HP laptop. The only problems I have are networking related. Drivers for 2 several years old laser printers do not work and I cannot reconnect to either wired or wireless networks after waking up from hibernation. Reinstalled a number of drivers, haven't found a solution yet. Other than that, I am impressed. However, due to MS's dumb upgrade pricing for Vista Ultimate users I will most probably go back to Vista after the trial expires.

Originally I had considered an Apple, but after the major disappointment when using my first Apple product, the Iphone, I decided to stick with Windows.

I'm playing around with Windows 7 on a couple of ION/Atom builds and so far so good. I'm not the type to upgrade operating systems, though.

I've got one computer that's definitely getting the upgrade and that's the HTPC since (it needs the Media Center, XP isn't really much suited for it). Other than that, I'll have Windows 7 on any new computers I build/buy while my current ones make do with XP.

I have tried it (on a virtual machine, so I won't comment on speed as that would be biased).

I hated it. Purely the user interface was horrible. Couldn't find a thing, my taskbar was a mess (I always open applications in a certain order so I can find them easily on my taskbar). Couldn't even go back to my trusty Win2000 interface (which I'm using on my XP as well, only started to use XP when I found out I could do that).

Personally, I'd go to Win2003 before going to Win7.

I installed it on my Acer Aspire One netbook (ordinary harddisk, not SSD, 1.8 GHz processor) - and while it's not faster than the winXP, it feels a lot smoother and just plain nicer. I really like the changes to the interface compared to XP. Can't compare it to Vista (XP at work and OSX at home for the last two years)

I have been running the RC build (32bit) for a while now on a Thinkpad T61p (3.5GB mem). Compared to Vista, which was previously on it, Win 7 appears leaner and snappier. A well-done update from Vista I'd say although I am not happy about the upgrade prices. Lucky are those can get it through their MSDN subscription soon...

I use an 8-year old XP computer at home. My rough plan has been to limp along this way until Win 7 is done and the first service pack is released. Then I'll buy a new computer with it preloaded - maybe next summer. Of course, if someone would release a killer tablet (I dunno, maybe aPple?), I might change my mind.

So, if the rumours are correct, you'll change your mind in September?

Correct. And last September, too. And the March before that.

Well, you could have done what I did. I ordered from the Amazon US Site when they had the Pre-order discounts ($50 for Home Premium, $100 for Pro) and am having them delivered to a friends house.

I just need for him to Send me the licence keys, as I'll be able to scrounge up a Disk easy enough.

That's a hell lot cheaper then the UK Prices, which are 1.5X to 2X.
