FREE: The Future of a Radical Price, by Chris Anderson, is now available as an exclusive ebook on Kindle and will be free for one week.

Book Description
The New York Times bestselling author heralds the future of business in Free. In his revolutionary bestseller, The Long Tail, Chris Anderson demonstrated how the online marketplace creates niche markets, allowing products and consumers to connect in a way that has never been possible before. Now, in Free, he makes the compelling case that in many instances businesses can profit more from giving things away than they can by charging for them. Far more than a promotional gimmick, Free is a business strategy that may well be essential to a company-s survival. The costs associated with the growing online economy are trending toward zero at an incredible rate. Never in the course of human history have the primary inputs to an industrial economy fallen in price so fast and for so long. Just think that in 1961, a single transistor cost $10; now Intel-s latest chip has two billion transistors and sells for $300 (or 0.000015 cents per transistor-effectively too cheap to price). The traditional economics of scarcity just don-t apply to bandwidth, processing power, and hard-drive storage.Yet this is just one engine behind the new Free, a reality that goes beyond a marketing gimmick or a cross-subsidy. Anderson also points to the growth of the reputation economy; explains different models for unleashing the power of Free; and shows how to compete when your competitors are giving away what you-re trying to sell.In Free, Chris Anderson explores this radical idea for the new global economy and demonstrates how this revolutionary price can be harnessed for the benefit of consumers and businesses alike.

God is Closer Than You Think, by Mike Darretta, isn't quite free - it'll cost you a single penny.

Book Description
People often view God as a harsh and judgmental God. Read the biblical book of Leviticus and you just might agree. Leviticus presents a God who seems distant and unapproachable, someone you would not want to get close to. But, as Mike Darretta points out, "we live in a day where God is no longer distant, but near". But what has changed? What has brought God near to you and me? In God is Closer Than You Think, you will discover why God is near and is someone you would want to have a close, meaningful friendship with.

IMO, Elsevier is one of the greediest cutthroat vendors in existence. This book goes against everything they believe in. Anderson must be quite persuasive to get this company to offer the book for no cost, because "free" is not in their dictionary.

Amazon now has One Hundred Year Of Solitude by Gabreil Garcia Marquez available for $0.99. However, I do not think this is a legitimate copy of the book -- the title is misspelled and so is the authors first name. Comments on Amazon indicate the book is VERY poorly formatted, so buyer beware.

I'd bet the bank that it's a pirated version somebody uploaded.

Sold by: Amazon Digital Services means that it was a user uploaded book.

Star Wars: Lost Tribe of the Sith #2: Skyborn, by John Jackson Miller, is the second free title in this series (if you missed Star Wars: Lost Tribe of the Sith #1: Precipice, it's still free, at least for now). Skyborn is currently a pre-order; grab it while it's free and it'll show up on your Kindle once it's released on July 21.

Book Description (contains spoilers if you haven't read the first one)
A Jedi ambush leaves the Sith ship Omen marooned on a remote alien world, its survivors at the mercy of their desolate surroundings and facing almost certain death. But Sith will no more bow before the whims of fate than they will yield to the weapons of their enemies. And Omen’s cunning commander Yaru Korsin will let nothing keep him and his crew from returning to the stars and rejoining the Sith order’s conquest of the galaxy. Murdering his own brother has proven Korsin’s ruthless resolve — but now an entire race stands in his way.

The primitive, superstitious Keshiri worship unseen gods called the Skyborn, shun science, and punish unbelievers with death. Branded a heretic the widowed young geologist Adari Vaal is running for her life. Among the mysterious Sith castaways she finds powerful sanctuary — and her saviors find the means of survival. With Adari as their willing pawn, the Skyborn as their Trojan horse, and the awesome power of the dark side of the Force at their command, the lost tribe of the Omen set out to subjugate a planet and its people — and lay the foundation for a merciless new Sith nation.

Killing Mum by Allan Guthrie - $0.99 [Crime Fiction Novella]

Quote:
Using a tanning salon as a front, Edinburgh-based Carlos Morales runs an operation that arranges contract killings.

Slight snag: his hit man’s in jail and won’t be out for a while. So when an anonymous – and very generous – payment arrives on account, Carlos decides to take the job on himself. He’s a pro. It can’t be that hard. But once the ‘mark’ is revealed, Carlos is forced to re-think his plans.

This is no longer business - it’s personal - because the ‘mark’ is his mother…

No problem, hope you have a safe trip. Here's another for the bookshelf. Too bad it isn't the first in the series.

Thorn Queen by Richelle Mead, is the second in the Dark Swan series, after Storm Born ($4.79).

Book Description
Eugenie Markham is a shaman for hire, paid to bind and banish creatures from the Otherworld. But after her last battle, she’s also become queen of the Thorn Land. It’s hardly an envious life, not with her kingdom in tatters, her love life in chaos, and Eugenie eager to avoid the prophecy about her firstborn destroying mankind. And now young girls are disappearing from the Otherworld, and no one—except Eugenie—seems willing to find out why.

Eugenie has spilled plenty of fey blood in her time, but this enemy is shrewd, subtle, and nursing a very personal grudge. And the men in her life aren't making things any easier. Her boyfriend, Kiyo, is preoccupied with his pregnant ex, and sexy fey king Dorian always poses a dangerous distraction. With or without their help, Eugenie must venture deep into the Otherworld and trust in an unpredictable power she can barely control. Reluctant queen or not, Eugenie has sworn to do her duty—even if it means facing the darkest—and deadliest—side of her nature…

Thanks. I'm finally moving to a real city (Cocoa Beach). It's funny saying that though since Palm Bay has 100,000+ people and Cocoa Beach only has 12.5K. I'll be a block away from the beach, less than a mile from the Cocoa Beach pier and 25 miles from Kennedy Space Center.

I'm jealous ... of the location, but not some of the roads nearby. Used to work with someone that lived there .. hubby was carjacked driving down the wrong road in that area (it was a main road). We visited and were warned to take quite a roundabout way of getting there (and apparently the guard and gates in the subdivision were more than ornamental).

Here's a "non-book" (and not one I'll be "buying", even if it s free):

Mortal Instruments: Sample of the CITYs

If anyone is interested in my opinion of such an offering, it's on my blog today.

Ouch, sorry to hear about that. I'm planning to ride my bicycle around here since everything is so close and hopefully, I won't get messed with since I'm a fairly big guy (with long hair and a crazy hobo beard )
