We had no TV yet where we lived but the event was so important our parents took us to see the landing on a B&W 14" TV at my grand parents place in Montreal. I was 12 at the time.

After seeing the documentary "Conspiracy Theory: Did We Land on the Moon?" a few years ago, I was so surprised I still don't know what to think. They're thinking of going back there, I'm against because we have to fix spaceship Earth first. |

I was at home, watching the landing with my Dad (Mom was out, and my brother was outside playing). It was particularly funny because, not long after the landing itself, Dad brought in the mail, and in it was a letter for me, one of the first I had ever gotten (at age nine), advertising a mail-order model of the lunar module!

Interesting question about the lunar lander that those who weren't around at the time might not know -

There were three astronauts on Apollo 11 (Aldrin, Armstrong and Collins), but the lunar lander didn't have three seats; so, the question is: who had to stand? |

Michael Collins remained in the command module and did not go down to the surface.

			So your answer is?

![]() Update - the answer is Aldrin & Armstrong had to stand - there were no seats on the lunar lander to save weight.

I was only 3 so I don't remember it, but I do remember watching a subsequent lunar landing (probably the last one in '72).

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/8157368.stm Pretty amazing stuff. Should put paid to the "Conspiracy Theorists" - but no, they'll probably just say that these images were faked, too, won't they? |

I watched it on tv in the lobby of a dormitory in Rome, Italy. I was part of a HS student exchange thing. Someone had found and plugged in a tv there and I'd forgotten all about it until I walked in the lobby door and saw this crowd watching tv. Funny because I'd been a big fan of the space program as a kid and when we went to Europe 3 weeks before, it all slipped my mind.

The Romans were so happy. Hugging us and waving US flags for weeks, fireworks in the sky for a couple nights. It was the first time I felt a part of the whole world. Last edited by wayspooled; 07-20-2009 at 03:10 PM. |

I don't believe in the conspiracy theory. I think those proponents might have used pictures from the training ground studios to underline their cover up stories. It could also be that Nasa operatives might also have used some images to fill time that were later found out to be fakes. Who knows? |

Moving on to more important matters, those of us who were around then remember that Tang was what the astronauts drank in space. Trivia question: How many quarts of Tang were consumed by the crew of Apollo 11 during the mission? |

hehe, Richard Nixon couldn't keep a note in his pocket with his enemies written on it as a secret - and I'm supposed to believe they didn't really land on the moon?

Zero? Or at least I hope they didn't really drink that stuff. I remember my mother buying it for us about that time. It tasted like sugar and vitamin C plus an orange dye.
