They are cute!

Thde problem with most of them though is that they pollute as much as 50 of today's cars because they use a two stroke engine.

Cars. Nasty, money gobbling, environment damaging, nerve destroying necessities (at least where I live). Though it is nice having a self propelling charging device for the laptop and camera.

My parents and brothers drive HUGE SUV's. I have always felt that it was a bit of a status thing with them. My oldest brother gets his Escalade as a comp (it's something that's done for NFL coaches as a marketing thing) and I think my parents and younger brother did it to kind of "keep up with the Jones's". I've driven my dad's once and only once and won't do it again. I'm only 5'3" and could barely reach the pedals. Thankfully it has a rear camera to show where you are going when backing up, otherwise I am sure I would have hit something.

We have a Honda mini-van that we absolutely needed with 3 kids and 3 dogs. We do a lot of traveling between extended family members' homes, Florida, Texas, Louisianna, South Carolina, Illinois, Missouri, Ohio, etc., (the US is a pretty big country, after all, and my family is fairly well spread out) and need the van. I hate driving it, though, and finally talked my husband into getting me a 2006 Honda CR-V. It's much smaller but still has a lot of room for grocery and dog hauling.

I can absolutely understand why you'd need a "mini-van" (which we call a "people carrier", BTW) with a family. What I don't understand are these vast "executive cars" like the ones Lincoln make which inevitably seem to have a single driver whenever one sees them.

I've never understood them, either. They call them "luxury" vehicles here, but I think they should call them "status symbol" vehicles.

Here we call them boats because of the way the suspension rolls.

. Apologies for the ambiguity - I should have said "a single occupant".

If that was a viable option, it'd be great.

But I'm happy for you. Cars are nothing but a money-drain.

It's true, I have a lot more disposal income now.

In fact, the first year without wheels, my spouse + I kept track of how much we spent on rental cars (we rented whenever we wanted to get out of town or had heavy stuff to haul).

In that one year, the price of rental cars didn't even add up to the insurance we'd been paying on the car.

Now I do lots of walking and I have a much simpler lifestyle. Paradoxically, getting rid of the car gave me more freedom.
