excellent, let us know if you get a reply. who is the UK publisher ? do they do ebooks so far ? i admit i was rather surprised and pleased to see the french one was available (even if only in mobipocket or pdf, since it was published over a year ago, and gallimard doesn't seem to be too motivated to make a new epub version of this book so far... not that i can't convert the mobi book, of course ), although i was less pleased when i saw the original price of course. gallimard is the publisher making the smallest reduction for their digital editions that i know of, only 5%, which makes it effectively the same price as the paper book since the fnac (large bookstore chain) sells their paperbooks regularly with a 5% discount.

The bit I read was the concierge describing herself. I have no idea how true it is to the original, but it doesn't read in a laboured way like some translations can do.

I will do - it's published by a company called Gallic Books, whose aim is to bring French books to the UK. I can't see any ebooks on their site, so I'm not holding my breath. But I did mention the original was available as an ebook

if you can cite it here i could let you know. that's one of the famous quotes in the book, used everywhere as the excerpt, so i know it already.

ha, nice ! i've not heard of them but i like the idea, for obvious reasons. now we just have to get them to make ebooks...

"staggering" is a much more polite word than i might use... but i am trying also to be optimistic (i'm also writing to publishers frequently. in fact i wrote to gallimard when i saw the pocket edition of the paper book was coming out, to "gently remind" them of the ebook price and "confirm" that they would naturally be lowering it accordingly... i got no reply from them and they took their sweet time about it (and in fact in all the shops but one it's still full price ; the shop i bought if from, numilog, is also a big distributor and may have created the file to begin with, so they are probably the source for the others, which would explain why they reduced the price first) but they finally did reduce it, must have been very recent too because i checked just a few days ago or a week and it was still at 19€.

I'm writing to them in fits and starts. And the odd author (odd as in occasional, although I think at least one of them is definitely odd as in eccentric.)

That annoys me more than a reply that suggests they've not understood about ebooks - at least with that you have something to work on.

Mow lawn .... still to do;
Maintenance on cat fountain motors .... about to do (going to be away from the computer for the next hour and a half); and
Finish painting the bathroom .... still to do (and may end up on tomorrow's list).

Or .... maybe I'll mow the lawn tomorrow morning before it gets too freaking hot.

I'm hungry. I don't think I had breakfast this morning, no wonder I'm hungry. Rats.

And that's what I tried to do before I realized (by lying down) that one of my cats had stomach problems (ahem) all over my bed, had to wash it out twice, scrubbed the matress down, tried to wash her rear end, ended up having stomach problems all over me (re-ahem) and finally had to wash all the bathroom and the floors and wathever she touched.
i just hope she gets better soon, this is a stinking hell!
