Oh My! Zelda I hope it doesn't turn into another watery nightmare! Can't you stick something on the window to block the leak until the rain stops? Duct Tape, anything, really..

We had the flying ants a couple of weeks ago. Today they'd be drowned ants.

the good news is, the storm was very brief this time, it's over already, so there wasn't too much water to clean up. i just can't understand where the hell it's coming from, it makes no sense. i don't think the mastic is at fault (particularly since i redid it. not very well, but well enough i think). and looking at the way the window is constructed it just doesn't seem physically possible for the water to get under there. now i think i will blame this guy i was going out with for a while, he is one of those people who never thinks before he acts, means well but always ends up doing more harm than good... he thought my window didn't close properly (it did, at the time, but i had it propped open a few cm with a wire to get some air circulation) so one day when i wasn't there "to surprise me" he "fixed" the window with some isolating... foam tape stuff, i don't know what the hell you call it. then, he forced the window closed with the wire still in it. now that i think about this more i am even more astounded because it occurs to me he must have removed the wire to put on the tape, yet it apparently seemed logical to him to put the wire back before closing the window... ![]() ![]() thank heavens for small mercies, is that what you're trying to say ? i suppose you're right... |

well, i would try, if i could figure out where the hell the leak was coming from ! i thought it was the mastic last time, so i redid that. but apparently that was not the problem. now i think it might be that stupid foam tape, so i'm trying to remove that (i'll finish tomorrow, i've had enough for now). if it's not that... i really don't know ! looking at it, the water shouldn't be able to get in, since as far as i can tell it's coming in *under* the window, but there is a small ledge on the outside which overhangs the joint of the inner and outer frame, so i really don't understand how the water is apparently defying the laws of physics to run along the underside of that to come in the window. and since it only leaks when there is a very strong rain (thank heavens, i suppose) it's hard to test if it's still leaking or not... stupid window, stupid rain, stupid ex-boyfriend and his stupid foam tape, stupid landlord...

It sounds as though there is a gap between the actual window frame and the surrounding brick. There are expanding fillers that you can buy. But if you live above the ground floor then these could be a pain to apply.

It could be an absent ledge over the window that causes the trouble also but I'd have to see. I'd love to visit but it's a long swim. |

Is your windowframe made of wood?
When we bought our house, we noticed water trickling down the wall from upstairs. (This wasn't as much a problem as it is for you, as we had no floor at that time and the walls were bare as well ![]() (needless to say, we also replaced those windowframes even though we never planned for them to be replaced!) |

It's pouring here. I was supposed to go to a baseball game (with my company), but it kept getting delayed. I was sick of being wet so I went back to the bar (suprise?) and now I'm home. Good thing too, they postponed it until tomorrow. Alas, I'll be in Virginia.
Hey, wasn't this a thread about what we're doing? ![]() |

A guy was telling me yesterday that water can actually fall from the sky. Needless to say, I laughed my head off.

Yesterday evening was soccer night for my old geesers. We came to the field in a raging storm so strong that the wiper blades were at the quickest setting and it wasn't fast enough to see anything. We parked there admiring the light show for 30 minutes until the thunderstorm gave way to light cold showers.
That's where the fun started. The turf was soft squishy and waterlogged. The first reaction one gets is Yuck! but as cold water permeates through the boot material you get used to it. You still have reserves until you fall flat in it. I played defense so falling is part of the game. After a while it was fun, each time I tacled someone, we'd come back up covered in mud and laughing like crazy. The beer was better than ever again. ![]() |

Weird weather here. Sunshine, low humidity and a high only in the low 30's (C, VR, don't hyperventilate!).
