I saw this recommended here on the forums, clicked over to Amazon, but no dice!
This was once available on the Kindle, but now that edition is only at eBookMall which carries the "Extra Large Print" PDF and MOBI versions. The MOBI is DRM-free (and therefore Kindle compatible) and will use a 7th "hidden" large font size on the Kindle (although you can still select some of the smaller sizes too). On all other devices, it will default to a large font but won't typically give you a larger range of fonts than usual.

Amazon removed many of the "Extra Large Print" ebooks from the Kindle Store, because the publisher does not have the permission of the copyright holders to sell the ebook. Permission isn't required in the US for large print books in some cases but this isn't clear for ebooks, see Kindle Compatible E-Books.

In answer to the Heinlein question - It's not his estate that's balking, it's his publishers. They're not getting the backlists out all that fast. But they are poking along. Can't remember which one(s). Ballantine's descendents, I think.

To answer a couple of the requests:

1. Bertrand Russell's The History of Western Philosophy is available for free at the Internet Archive:
http://www.archive.org/details/weste...osoph035502mbp
(I can only assume that someone forgot to renew the US copyright.)

2. The MR library already has Dorothy L Sayers' Clouds of Witness, Strong Poison and Whose Body, plus a couple of short stories featuring Lord Peter Wimsey.

I have managed to locate a copy of The Nine Tailors. It is out of copyright in Canada and life+50 years countries. I'm currently working on a conversion, but the file is full of scanning errors so I may need a few days. Watch the upload section!

joy !!! i've not read that one yet, i don't think !!

patricia, if i request the books by Roy Vickers do you think you could magically locate them for me too ? they're not yet PD but i'd be willing to pay (a reasonable price) for them...

(i'm thinking of the mysteries from the "department of lost causes" series, because i've got an old paperback of those, in french though, but actually it turns out he was quite prolific... i'd take anything at all...)

I'll keep an eye out, Zelda, but haven't seen any ebooks by Roy Vickers.

*sigh* me neither. i've looked, too. i recommend him, in case you ever stumble across him (chances are it will be in paper edition). i've only read one, "Service des affaires classées, Recueil 2", and have never even managed to find the first collection to my frustration. i enjoyed it very much.

thanks for the eye, though.

There is a few books that I want on kindle that is not available and they are by the same author. Most of her books are availabe. Its just those two that are not available. I have hit the button to the publisher that I want to read it on kindle. Its the stars series, charmed and enchanted, and captivated and entranced. Stars is on the top of my list though. These are all by Nora Roberts.

Ok, so maybe some of these books aren't out officially yet, but I found I had a few of them, even series (e.g.Ender's game), on open formats that worked well on the Iliad. They're out there.

All hail the powers of the darknet! Hail! Hail! Hail!

Actually there is a large list of books that I'd like to see on the kindle. It was funny to see Fahrenheit 451 because just yesterday I pulled out my old paperback and thought I'd try to find a kindle version. I have had some luck finding places that sell the books in other formats and then I convert them over.

Weirdly enough, not 5 minutes after I posted that message, I was surfing amazon and on my "recommended list" was a Kindle version of Katherine by Anya Seton. I couldn't believe it. So that is one down. Makes me hope that maybe Amazon is serious about the 5 year plan... or it could have just been a completely random coincidence.

Still, though, very weird timing.

These books are available starting with "P" is for Peril. I'm hoping that at the end they release all of them together. This is one of those series that I re-read every few years or so.

I'm waiting for the "All Creatures Great & Small" series - I've written to the publishers but no word back yet. I've read & re-read these 4 books literally all my life.

I wish the whole "Wheel of Time" series would come out on Kindle. I typically reread at least several of the books when one was coming out, so they are all terriblly loved. I didn't read the last 2 at all as they came and left my house (fully purchased!) on their own before I got to read them, and I just got tired of supplying someone elses fix

What I want even if I'll never buy them or read them is every book of series that have eBook(s) available but not the complete series. This will be good for all of us and good for eBooks. This will make buying eBooks of a series possible without worrying if new ones will ever come out ot back ones. And I want them all in ePub.

And one other thing I want is no more exclusive eBooks.
