Basically all it does is convert it from whatever format its downloaded in to JPEG. If for some reason that conversion is causing corruptoin on your machine, I'd suspect that some imaging library on your machine is corrupted

Is Calibre supposed to be able to convert from html0 (Book Designer) to something else?

Hm. I seem to have spoken before testing rigorously. The corruption no longer happens when I download things, but does when I import files from my own PC. I haven't a clue why, and it could be that downloading is still broken, just in fewer cases, but the problem is apparently not entirely solved.

By "import from my PC" you mean using Add books? The cover extracted from the book is corrupted? What format is the book in.

Sorry, no. I mean when manually adding a cover in the edit properties screen, and selecting a jpg cover file saved anywhere.

Is there any way to easily enter the year into the Published Date field. As far as I can see, at the moment I am forced to enter the month (which I often do not know) and then set the year via the calendar drop down which is very cumbersome if I want to enter an old value (say "1938").

It is possible I am missing something?

I still have problems with collections. They are being created, they have the correct number of books which display fine, but with a small caveat: they are just random books! For example my classics collection does not have even one classic book, and most news collections have a book from another news source.

Just select the year with your cursor and type in the new one! It's been working for me.
