Right now: watching Zoolander for the hundreth time. I don't think I'll ever stop laughing at the freak gazoline fight accident and the subsequent "ugooggoly"! Can't wait for "Merman, dad, merman!" and "What's that, a center for ants?". Ooh, and also the David Bowie scene...
So it's a Ben Stiller/Owen Wilson special on MovieTime, bacause Starsky and Hutch is starting. I just don't think I can watch that one though, not patient enough...

I hate keyless chucks for that and the opposite reason (they won't stay clamped). Unfortunately, they are all you can buy these days, pretty much... If they ever start putting the damnedable things on drill presses we will knkow that Western civilization as we know it is at an end.

I can't recommend these enough, although Pi is a bit off the wall. Next in my queue are Black Orpheus and Lawrence of Arabia.
I watched "The Red Violin" last night!! I really enjoyed it. Most of what is on your list are either on my list of favorite films, or on my list of soon to be seen coming from Netflix.

While I was watching the film I was checking out the lamp, which I finished yesterday afternoon. I finally did get the chuck unstuck (I'm back to wearing my splint -- it helped to have my wrist a little more stable).

It was so hot out there in the garage. 105-110 I would guess. So, the drill motor kept overheating, and the wood got so hot it actually started charring. All I needed to make was a circle of wood about 1/4 inch thick or so. The mouth on the jug was too big for a bottle adapter, so I needed to make something to wrap around the adapter so it would fit. It took me five tries to get something that would actually work.

Then, as luck would have it, the first bulb I put in (new out of the package) was bad, and I kept thinking I had wired it incorrectly. It was just so hot. I am so not doing anything outside today.

Oh, photo of lamp attached. That's a scene from "The Red Violin" on the TV.

Oh I can't wait for that! I'm writing down menu after menu after menu of things I can make and freeze, and of salads (salads!). What did you eat? I'm almost entirely fed by canned soups, bread and peanut butter (or Nutella, yum) and coucous.

I think the light makes it look more cream colored at the top ... it's just one of those "little brown jugs" that you see sometimes. All dark brown glazed ceramic.

I kept trying to find a use for it, and finally decided just to make a lamp out of it. Would have been really easy, if they had made an adapter the right size.

That's quite an image!!

Ricky -- ah yes, "little brown jug". I couldn't think of that name. It's great! I'd have looked for a cork to make the bulb fit (though I might not have succeeded).

aw. i completely forgot that Groupe F was doing a fireworks show tonight in St. Denis. they're brilliant and i was sort of thinking of going. then again, since i hate going to St. Denis (it's a city in the near suburbs, but it takes me at least 3/4 hour to get there), maybe subconsciously i "deliberately" forgot.

now i can hear the explosions in the distance and i wish i were there.

i hope they'll do a show at la villette in september again, but 2 shows in 3 months seems like a lot to hope for.
