Fetch News feature - several problems
Hi,
First post here: I own a Kindle DX outside US. Without calibre it would almost be non usable. Thanks. Great app. Especially the fetch feeds feature is remarkable. I heavily rely on the fetch news feature. I encounter several problems however: (1) - I have about ten sources to be put in one mobi file. The fetch loads all feeds - I can see this in my netwotk log - but only five sources show up in the finished mobi file on my Kindle DX. I tried to change the feed order, take some out without any luck. Just the five first feeds show up in the mobi file. (2) - with b12 the same feedlist - working before - fails to fetch and build to mobi. There is a very long error list and I'm not quite sure where the important part is to find. The last lines are: Traceback (most recent call last): File "<string>", line 1, in <module> File "/Applications/Werkzeuge/calibre.app/Contents/console.app/Contents/Resources/lib/python2.6/site-packages.zip/calibre/utils/ipc/worker.py", line 90, in main File "calibre/gui2/convert/gui_conversion.pyo", line 17, in gui_convert File "calibre/ebooks/conversion/plumber.pyo", line 644, in run File "calibre/ebooks/conversion/plumber.pyo", line 748, in create_oebbook File "calibre/ebooks/oeb/reader.pyo", line 73, in __call__ File "calibre/ebooks/oeb/reader.pyo", line 584, in _all_from_opf File "calibre/ebooks/oeb/reader.pyo", line 244, in _manifest_from_opf File "calibre/ebooks/oeb/reader.pyo", line 177, in _manifest_add_missing File "calibre/ebooks/oeb/base.pyo", line 935, in fget File "calibre/ebooks/oeb/base.pyo", line 863, in _parse_xhtml IndexError: list index out of range (3) - Building the final mobi file itself usually takes quite some time - about 72 Minutes in my case on MBA 2Rev 1,86 GHz. I understand there is a lot of parsing to do in the background. Still is there hope to speed up things a little? Again. Great app. Keep up and keep coming. |

@hippocratesnoah: Try increasing oldest_article and post your recipe here so I can debug the problem in b12. There aren't going to be any speed increases in the near future.
@vxnerve: Open a ticket so I don't forget to look at it |

And another Thing I just noticed right now: My Feed-Mobi doesn't show up under subscription anymore though I could swear it did yesterday. Is there a way to set this manually?

On my Kindle 2, when I sort by Author, most titles appear to be sorting by first name rather than last name. I've tried it by checking the "use author sort for author" with the same results. Is there something I need to do, or is this just how it does it?

@sapient: Ah, I see the problem, will be fixed in b13
@reign: You have to also re-convert all mobi books to make sure then new setting is used. @hippocratesnoah: Yes increases the number of days. And in the custom recipes dialog, click advanced mode to see the recipe and post it here |

I did reconvert all my mobi files to see if it changed and it didn't. Every time I changed a setting I would reconvert and test. I'm just curious if maybe I'm setting something incorrectly.

If there isn't a bug and you've set author sort to lastname, firstname and you use the use author sort option, the generated MOBI files should have lastname, firstname set as the author. Which means they should sort by last name on the Kindle.

I have an experiment for you. This isn't necessarily the way you want to do it long term, but just to make sure you are seeing/working with the right stuff. Click on a book to select it. Then click on the button at the top that says: "Edit meta information". You will see two fields for the author Author(s): _______________ Author Sort: ______________ In both fields, type in LastName, FirstName then hit OK. This book should now be sorted by LastName. Assuming this works OK, you know that Calibre is sorting OK. Now you need to figure out how to manage the name fields to get the sort you want. You can use the Author field to set a display and the author sort field to set a different style for the sort. That is, you can set the Author field to FirstName LastName and the Author Sort field to LastName, FirstName. So its up to you whether you want to sort by what you display (using just the Author(s) field) or you want to display one thing (Author Field) and sort by another (Author Sort). |

I may have found a bug.
My books filenames are t;xxxxxxxxxx.rar and my regex in the prefs is (?P<title>.+);(?P<isbn>.+) It worked well in all other previous betas. However, now on beta 12 when I added about 400 books. 300 were added with t as filename and the ISBN numbe in the ISBN field the other 100 were added with t;xxxxxxxx as filename and an empty ISBN. When I deleted and re-added one of those that didn't add the ISBN number it was added fine. Maybe the regex gets broken after a certain number of files? btw. I'm going to experiment with this beta to see if it fails to add metatdata from isbndn if the number of files being pulled is big. If it still doesn't work I'll open the ticket. Thanks, M. |

Another problem due to the drop down author list. If you have a book with multiple authors, when you open the book to make an edit, it only shows the first author in the author box. If you don't re-add the extra authors they are lost.
For example, let's say I have a book whose authors are listed, in calibre, as: John Smith & Jane Doe When I go to edit the meta-information, it only lists: John Smith as the author, so if I do anything other than cancel, the author data is overriden and it now will only list John Smith as the author. |
