I really don't like the screen placement on the EEE Cloud.

I'm sure they are, however, while available, those are pretty expensive machines. They mostly make them for industry and health care (where space to park a bunch of CPUs is a real issue sometimes).

On the whole, I prefer having a netbook to having an all in keyboard or all in monitor if I need a small footprint or lightweight for mobility.

I know Cybernet Manufacturing creates solutions for worldwide application, so I would certainly think they make all in ones with other keyboards. However, while the Asus is certainly not the first of the type by a long shot, it will probably be the most affordable. Although 16G of SD does not impress me .... not with the new iPhone having 32G.

I'm not entirely certain that the touch pad is intended to replace a screen. Most of the all-in-one PCs are meant to be used hooked up to a monitor.

That's why, while very nice, they don't really entirely replace something like a netbook.

I suspect the touchpad is really more of a backlit multifunction mousepad and quick way to access programs.

It would be much to strange to try to use that small screen while be in a normal typing position (for the keyboard) for anything other than a touchpad.

Although, once you add in the DVD player, a 750G HD, and a few other nice items, it's a bit more expensive than the Asus. Cybernet also makes an all in one built into a monitor, and has for several years.
Even longer than the product linked above, most home computers were contained within keyboards originally, including my beloved above all ZX Spectrum:

and the excellent Commodore 16 / 64

Let's not forget the Amiga 600 and the Atari ST

A trip down memory lane, and I owned one or more of all these computers

Oh yes .... right now .... trying to figure out how and why I suddenly am seeing double in my right eye. Makes doing things a bit difficult. I can close one eye and see just fine, but then because of my dual color blindness, the colors are all skewed.

If I leave both eyes open, then things are just ghosted, but normal color. Although, and this is really disconcerting, I don't notice any problem if I am wearing my optivisor (which seriously magnifies things) and jam the page right in front of my eyes.

Too many drugs? Not enough drugs?? Too much reading?? Not enough reading? Sounds like a poll if ever I heard one.

Yep .... nothing much new under the sun. And, really, Moejoe, if you are going to cloud computing, check out Carbonite. It's marvelous.

I quite liked Chrome, but switched back to Opera and Firefox - they just seem that bit better.

Or the Amiga 500 - the first computer I had that I really liked Although upgrading it to 1mb of RAM wasn't as easy as just putting the module in the slot - for whatever reason the slot on mine was a little too small, so I had to attack it with a file first...

I had a 500 as well as a 600, 2x600's and a 1200 at one point. I had multiple versions of the ZX Spectrum, still my favourite computer of all time. And all of those early home computers were more stable than any Windows/Mac/Linux PC I used afterward.

Here's some nostalgia, the ZX Spectrum loading Manic Miner (the noises you hear are all very much normal.)

Trying to figure out how on earth I'm going to get five people together in one room at the same time to watch me give two speeches. In other words, I have to get a group of people together in the same room at the same time TWICE. If I'd wanted to give live speeches, I wouldn't be taking online classes! (Maybe this belongs in the Vent and Rant Thread....). I don't even think I KNOW five people well enough to ask that of them! Everyone's busy and on different schedules these days, and how do they think it's fair to hold me responsible for five people being able to be in one place at one time?

I still have fond memories of running Locoscript on an Amstrad pcw in 1987. It was my first computer, and lasted for ten years. Then the college I was working in bought a heap of them, and I was the most techno-savvy person on campus for a brief period.

Trying to build a new lamp for the bedroom. My keyless chuck appears to be frozen, and that is making me nuts!! I wonder if I can find my old plug in drill somewhere?? Or, if I even still have it??
