That's just hurtful Moejoe.

My role, going forwards, is to solutionise leveraged synergies vis-a-vis blue-sky, out of the box thinking and to energise Pan-European matrix management devolution, albeit with regard to the business transformation agenda and the necessity of having all our ducks in a row with regard to strategic distributed requirements.

Now, I really can't make it any clearer than that, surely?

Heh .... I was "Director of" a department, but because I am awful at delegating anything and driven to do everything that doesn't get done exactly when I want it to get done, after four years, most of my department was considered redundant, and either let go or reassigned.

Then, I left, and they had to hire a full department again. (I got a lot of phone calls from people for a year or more after I left either asking me to come back, or asking me exactly how I did things .... it was so sweet.) I just kept telling them what I tell everyone .... squirrel on crack or dead asleep.

Oh, just got back from letting the a/c repair guys into a neighbor's house. Apparently, her father in law accidentally cut through the a/c power outside the house when he was helping with their yard work. (Can't be too hard on him, he is 89.) And UPS just showed up with a package for me, and I can't remember what it was I ordered. Did I mention it is HOT here???

Oh YES!!! It's my hemostats!! Oh frabjous day!! Wow .... these things came off the truck so hot to the touch, you'd think they'd been in an autoclave!

You have my sympathies, Bilbo. I'm in the same boat. (See my sig for more info.)
Are you in a union? If so, it is time to consult them urgently. And if your current "role" is no longer required then management have a statutory duty to consider redeployment.
Good luck. I'll be thinking of you.

I just signed the petition. What sort of bozos think they can call themselves a "university" without teaching humanities? Are they planning on becoming a technical school? And, not teaching Welsh .... in Wales?? Who elected or appointed these idiots?

And if you are over 50, then voluntary early retirement may often be a better option than statutory redundancy in the UK, because management have to pay contributions to the retirement scheme until you reach retirement age.

Thanks, Ricky. We have been making exactly this point quite forcefully, both in the media and to the Welsh Assembly Government. (Education is devolved in Wales.)

Thanks Patricia. No union Sure they will look at redeployment, not sure they have anything I want and pretty sure they are looking to save money (which they won't do if they keep paying me).

(Have, of course, signed your petition by the way. Good luck with that)

Well, it's simply stupid. My mother was part Welsh (from way back), but she always told me to be very proud that I had Welsh blood in my veins. And, how can I be proud of a place that is apparently going to let its language, art and history die for lack of teaching!! Not to mention not teaching those incredibly important aspects of worldwide culture in general. What sort of students are they going to be turning out? I can answer that, to turn a Simple Desultory Philippic on its head, the type of student who when you mention "Dylan" thinks you are talking about the singer instead of the poet.
