Senior Managers? Isn't that a euphamism for 'wankers' Sorry, but I hate managers of all ilks, and I haven't met one yet who wasn't an unnuterrable idiot and made me want to punch them in the face immediately.

Sorry to hear about the job, Bilbo. If they give you any hassle just punch them in the face, you'll feel better

I certainly don't work in a theatre company (nothing like that interesting).

Buzz words are a pet hate of mine as well. In a meeting last week, somebody actually said (and I quote from memory here), "Let's take that on board and solutionize to a positive outcome" - I nearly choked! My boss (otherwise a good guy and one I get on well with) is absolutely fluent in BS and has been known to use phrases like "leverage our synergies" with a straight face. I have kind of appointed myself the team's resident BS detector and take great delight in pointing out to him when he's slipped into BS mode.
Oh, yes!! "Synergy." Oh, how I hate that word when used by the suits. They used that a lot when they merged firms where I used to work .... and then the layoffs began. I have met very few people in "management" who I like or respect even a little tiny bit.

Bilbo sorry to hear about your job. I hope it works out for you. I still believe a company is only as good as it's people regardless of its size. Too many 'Managers' take little to no real responsibility for either their people or the company they represent.

@moejoe, as a business owner and 'Manager' I resemble your 'wanker' comment

It is hotter than all get-out outside, and having now mowed the backyard, I am bringing in cans of cat food to stock the pantry. 54 cases, each one 24 cans each, need to be brought in, unpacked, and put on the shelves. I'm breaking the job up as much as I possibly can because it's an oven out there. To demonstrate just how bad it is, I checked on the neighbor's 20 gallon deer trough today about noon, and it was down to nothing, so I refilled it. When I heard from her later in the day, she said she had filled it to the top this morning before she left for work. So either the deer are dying of thirst, or most of it had simply evaporated in four hours.

I think you're right. The company I work for made massive profits last year and is on track to do the same this year. I am convinced that they are using the current economic situation to cut costs in an agressive way.

I suppose I should confess here that I would probably be considered a Senior Manager (my job title contains the word "Head of") and my role is in IT.

The people making the decisions about my role are, however, Senior Senior Managers and it is at that level, naturally, that wankerdom is conferred

Just for the record, I kind of lucked into a senior job and I've never really considered myself to be a natural leader.

Doesn't really matter what your job title is (or even how you got there) - something like this is still grim, and seems to be happening too often at the moment.

Hope all goes well and that you manage to find a solution that you're happy with. There are still jobs out there, just don't show new employers this thread

Dear God!! What are all you managers doing on the internets? I thought you lot couldn't read (as a a rule) or were too busy saying "Ass out of U and Me" or streamling your projections or whatever else bollocks every manager has ever said to me when he could have just asked me in plain english

Thankfully I no longer work in IT
