I've never done Karaoke, no. Well not publically.

I did burn some karaoke songs and will play them at home sometimes and belt it out. And I sang a solo at church last year, so technically that was karaoke. Our choir had a party last year as well, and got out the karaoke machine, and I sang Johnny B Goode, but that's the extent of my karaoke.

Do you karaoke? ( I assume karaoke could be used as a verb)

I'm in the UK, where there are Sonys, BeBook and Cool-er. I've had hands-on with a Sony and it was too big and too heavy. Very male-looking. I didn't quite get comfortable with it. Now the cool-er is in colours. It's light. It's available now. It's cheaper. It's a British company (yes I know it's made abroad - isn't everything?)

Yes the Elonex e-reader is coming up, but there is no information on their website to give all the details as there are for all the others, and the reviews can't agree on how heavy it is....

So guess what I'm ordering? Perhaps I'll do a personal opinion write-up of the Cool-er when it arrives.

I wish you luck with the Cool-er. Most of the reviews that I have read have scored an average of 5/10. I'd love to read your review of it.

I used to think that about myself. But I've been told that I have a very pleasant baritone. The guy was stone deaf, but still, it was a compliment.

The hardware is identical to that of the Cool-ER. Both the Cool-ER and the Elonex are clones of the Netronix EB600.

The verb is "have you karaoked".

Dear Griffonwing:

The proper question would be "Have you karaoked"! All karaoke takes place as past perfect tense. This is because you cannot sing and ask the question at the same time. Technically you could bypass this rule as your parrot could sing while you ask the question.

Also, never burn karaoke... set the singer on fire!!

My best is Dean Martin's "Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime". My mom played it 800,000 times when I was growing up and I now can sing it just like Dean. It is scarey!

New Device!! I just bought a Magellan Roadmate 1470 GPS. I love it. It is thin, light, and works perfectly. Now, if our 7.5 inch MID device can feel and look like this we have a winner!!

He doesn't sing. He makes screeching sounds and then acts mute so people think it was me.

Some karaoke singers.. I WISH I could set on fire. The screams would be more harmonious than their attempts of song.

MARKETING PLOY!!
Record yourself and include it as a free mp3, along with the free books you have preinstalled!

(or are you actually wanting these machines to sell??)

I have no need for a GPS. This here is one member of the male spieces who is NOT afraid to stop and ask for directions. I'll go so far as to stop multiple times, just to make sure I haven't missed an exit.

And yes, ladies. This specimen of amazement is still available. Inquire within.

I head a rumor once, i think, about some future devices, but I'm not sure if this was one.

Mum is the word for a while

Dear All:

ALL is going well and we think we will have great news soon.

However, for the time being, my posts are hurting the efforts as these firms wish to keep down pre-sales info.

The Slate Blue looks incredible by the way!! Simply astonishing!!

However, so as not to jeapordize talks and negotiations now I will try to keep my mouth shut a bit more until I have the "tell em and move em".

Again, all looks great but I have the new website and other things to concentrate on. I just need to keep it down on future devices until the green light is given. PLEASE understand the news is GOOD but I am NOT helping if I jeapordize things.

Dear Robert.
Go to the beginning of this thread.
Have a look at the very first post:
"Astak Mentor eBook readers with WiFi and Touchscreen options"
that was 04-09-2008, 02:57 PM, exactly 309 days ago.
We were excited, we were ecstatic, there was much, much bigger "buzz" than there is about Cooler. We created an Uber Monster Thread with 2713 posts discussing this exciting devices.
Today, 309 days later, that "WiFi and Touchscreen options" are still vapourware.

In the meanwhile:
- there was Kindle DX introduced and delivered
- txtr is just around the corner, and on the www.txtr.com there are a few interesting free e-books. There is a press release at http://reader.txtr.com/press.html txtr device will be introduced at Frankfurt Book Fair 2009 on 14 to 18 October
- some of our members have [Gasp!] working new firmware [with folders and working Delete button] on their Cybook gen 3. Next Monday, or at least "real soon now" I expect a Duke Nukem Forever to be released for Cybook,
- we have seen *video* of working Bookeen Opus - the new 5" device from Netronix

Cooler is HERE. TODAY. You can order it, pay for it, receive it and play with it. Today.

Not all of us.

(That being said--I'm still very happy with my Cybook after a year and a half. I want folders more than the Delete button and have been waiting patiently for a year and a half for them. I very rarely delete anything unless I'm adding stuff at the same time anyway. But in the race between the Opus and the Pocket Pro, I'm going with the Pocket Pro, partly to try out a different company/OEM and also because I like the specs better, particularly the formats handled.)

Robertb,

You may have already answered this, but I don't remember it if so.

On the pocket pro, can you test the elapsed time it takes to begin reading a book? Ideally a non-drm mobi book.

For example, on my Cybook with several hundred books on the device it took about a minute to turn on. Then I had to select the book to begin reading it. On my Kindle 2, it takes less than 5 seconds to turn on and it turns on directly to the spot I was last reading.
