Have I really alienated every dog-loving member of MR (i.e. most of them), purely just so that you could share that clip, again, admittedly excellent, of a shark attacking an aeroplane?

I chose mosquitoes. I find sharks fairly easy to avoid but mozzies are a pain. They bite me.
Also they carry malaria and a number of other diseases.

well that's done it.

if patricia will vote for the mosquitoes, i'm voting for them too, and the law of unintended consequences be damned.

I need to see that!

And I voted spiders. I don't care about their utility, this is just a poll. So yeah, spiders. They make me insane.

Let me tell you a story about how much I'm silly, how much I hate spiders and how much I'm thinking about paint (making ties between threads, ain't that wonderful?).

This happened a few months ago. I was sweeping the floor in my old apartment's corridor. Since that one had no place to hang coats, I had a nice, 6 feet tall bookcase that I cut vertically in half in the corridor, on which I threw coats, shoes, tools and paint stuff. Thanks to my craftsmanship it wasn't deep, so on top of it I had just enough space to line up paint gallons - some of them full, other half empty (or half full, depending on where you stand). While sweeping, I saw a tiny spider running away from the broom, hiding behind the bookshelf. I considered leaving it there, but I kept thinking about the possibility of it getting out and climbing on me while I slept, so I proceeded to move the bookshelf. With the paint gallons on it.

They all fell down, three of those exploded. White, lilac and bright red paint up to the ceiling, on the walls, on my coats, on my boots, two inches of it on the floor, and about half a gallon on me. I cried, laughed, cried again and spent 4 hours cleaning it up. 4 hours. It was surreal. Still funny, anyway.

I HATE SPIDERS!

I think it's probable that humans will take care of it (wiping ourselves out, I mean) one way or another sometime in the next century.

Well, I don't particularly care for mosquitoes either, but ticks are worse. And you, aren't you a southern girl?? I'm surprised you didn't name what is far and away the most obvious worst critter on earth: chiggers!

Ok, so it's only a poll, then I vote Spiders !
I know about their utility and so on, but a phobia (controlled one, I can squash them... ) is a phobia, isn't it ?

OK, maybe it's actually dog-owners I object to?

Runs away and hides deeeeep underground to avoid the wrath of the multitude of dog owners on MR
oh! and I vote snakes *shudder* got bit in the bum when little. I'm totally phobic about them!

I think it is not only dog owners, but probably even LITTLE dog owners that you have issues with. you need to go out and meet a few dogs with jobs such as my princess. she does not crotch poke, almost always smells good, have fleas!?NEVAH!!! and the slobbering means she is working which means she is either training or actually out looking for someone lost.

Oh I didn't put on Mansquito as an option....

From the same cheap straight-to-DVD production house that brought you Megashark vs Giant Octopus and the classic Megasnake comes the ultimate horror.....

MANSQUITO!!!! Half-man, half mosquito!!

Don't, just don't. There's even a romantic plot between the manquito and a young lady, just don't watch it. It's disturbing. And as I've been reminded by a wiseman yesterday, nothing can be unseen.
