Golden Syrup on Wikipedia and this is the brand I love.

I guess the closest comparison would be something like Maple Syrup, although I haven't tasted it so can't really say.

I agree that's a slightly strange choice, but trust me once you taste it the label doesn't matter at all,

Not having any golden syrup - I tried a few marmite and strawberry jam sandwiches.

It worked quite well, but you have to go easy on the marmite, cos the afterburn cuts right through the sweetness of the jam - my second attempt was more successful and produced an enjoyable sarnie. But I think the aggressive sweetness of golden syrup would give the marmite more of a run for its money.
(But I daren't have a tin of golden syrup in the house - I'd end up drinking it! )

oh that looks delightful! by sprout recipe is kind of cheating, and VR will LOVE it!!! you get good thick bacon, dice it, cook it down to the point you have cracklins' not burnt though! pull out the bacon bits, reserving the grease, make a roux with the grease, and then into a sauce.... mix the bacon back in, spoon over steamed sprouts.... yumyumyyyyy!

Well that's interesting, I thought my favorite weird sandwich was fairly common.

Peanut Butter, Mayo, and Dill pickles.

Yummy!

When I was a kid I used to put bacon bits on peanut butter sammiches.

Haven't done that in a while though....

Yep, beetroot is lovely in a sandwich.
I generally have the pickled variety; but just boiled is good too.

Are scrambled egg sandwiches odd? White bread, mayo, sliced cheese, and scrambled eggs. It was a childhood favorite.

Mayonnaise is odd! Why anyone wants to clog up they're sandwiches with that stuff is beyond me!

(Almost as nasty as guacamole!)

I would say it's not like maple syrup much at all. Maple syrup is usually subtle (and its woody origins apparent) compared to golden syrup, which is like being hit by a treacle bludgeon wrapped in pashmak (in a good way). It makes for a superb slow-cooked pudding, as I would be only too happy to prove to any doubter if they visit.

Yours sweetly,
Adrian

I don't use mayonnaise on other sandwiches. In fact, I usually have to go buy a tiny jar of mayo when I'm in the mood for a scrambled egg sandwich.

Oh great....now I want one of those sandwiches!

<adds eggs, mayo, cheese, and bread to my shopping list>
