Just relating my experience. Not every where I've worked has been like that, but it happened. For whatever reason the omnivores found my vegetarianism threatening. Maybe it was because there were a lot of hunters working there.

Maybe it's just because you're a minorty in that particular situation - just like the OP was the minority at his table.

Well, since AprilHare has not been back as far as I can tell, I will refrain from giving my answer, which was, "Bugger off, hay-breath!"

Oh. Guess I did anyway.

It is Lesbia and her pet sparrow, as in the poems of Sappho and Catullus.
(I knew that the classical education would come in useful one day.)

At $5 a pack, more or less, does anyone even smoke anymore? I mean, for cryin' out loud, a gallon of gas is only $2.50! On the other hand, milk at my local quick stop just went up to $6 per gallon. Wait, what was the question again?

BRIGHT SIDE: FREE THE HOPS beer is only $2.69 a bottle!

I would smoke but I can't afford to drive to the shops to buy them. Petrol is about $7.50 a gallon here.

Well, the bottom line is, one never really knows another person's situation, and anyone who is so perfect as to sit in judgment of others given this is an idiot. Personally, I agree with trying to minimize my environmental footprint when I can, but I have life-threatening food allergies and less severe intolerances to many vegetarian staples (wheat, corn, dairy, flax, nuts) so for me, a vegan diet is not a healthy choice. I even met with a registered dietitian about it recently, and she kept saying 'well, normally I tell people to eat nuts...' I do try and eat vegetarian meals when I can. Generally, my meals and snacks up to dinnertime (when I am more likely to cook) and soy or legume based. But I'll have chicken or meat for dinner a few times a week because I am on doctor's orders to do so in order to maintain adequate nutrition given my not-by-choice food restrictions.

If someone were to challenge me on this, I would firmly explain that we all do the best we can. I'm sure if we audited their every habit, we would find ways in which they are less than perfect!

Generally speaking, those who are reformed in some manner, as in ex-smokers, reformed alchoholics, born again whatevers, can be, and I stress can be, some of the most irritating, annoying, arrogant and obnoxious individuals on the face of the planet.

I'm an ex-smoker and I have never and will never be one of those.

That said, I'll get back on topic now and go munch on some cauliflower.
