Until the anaemia kicks in - I don't think that's too cheap to treat either (have you seen the price of a decent steak lately!?!)

Next we'll end up in a debate about government forced vegetarianism!

Calorie for calorie some veggies are a better source of iron than meat, and iron deficient anemia isn't any more common in non-meat eaters than in the general population.

You do need to eat your broccoli though.

Well, personally, I think that life's too short to have to spend any of it looking up the nutritional content of my entire diet to ensure that I'm adequately replacing something which has been a staple part of the modern human's diet since its inception.

I'll keep eating the meat thanks and not have to worry about that.

That's nice and all, but I wasn't trying to convert anyone, just pointing out that the idea that vegetarians/vegans suffer from anemia because of their diet is fallacious. The truth is in modern western society it's pretty easy to eat a nourishing diet whether your vegan/vegetarian or omnivore.

Never thought you were trying to convert me.

And I was merely pointing out that it does take more effort in terms of planning your meals to eat a properly nourishing diet if you're a vegetarian (and especially a vegan). This means that you need more motivation to be a vegetarian than I possess.

It may be true, although I think the old "protein deficiency" argument doesn't hold on closer inspection (perhaps if you're a vegan?).

However, It is not like a typical meat-eater diet in western society doesn't have it's shortcomings. Many meat-eaters lack different minerals and vitamines, despite them eating meat. In Denmark for example, we have added iodine to our salt, because most of the general population doesn't get enough iodine through their food intake.

My point is: You actually do need to think about whether you get your vitamines and minerals regardless whether you're a vegetarian or an omnivore.

That is the word I was waiting for. By physical definition, the human animal is an omnivore. That means a little of this and a little of that as a sourcefood. Not, only this and not only that.

This animal's structure needs some proteins, 23, one of which can not be obtained from vegetal matter. The body tells you what is good, but then again that is temporary because tomorrow it will ask you for something else totally different. Fasting is good too.

The business of thinking what a body should need is erronious in that we know nothing, science knows nothing but some basics.

Nothing white, nothing black, just a bit of everything in moderation.

Ahhhh, moderation . . . I knew I was missing something in my diet lately. I'll have to work on that.

That's not true so far as I know. There are nine essential amino acids that are not synthesized by the human body and need to be obtained from food (amino acids are the building blocks of proteins). Whole vegetarian foods generally contain all nine essential amino acids, though they're lower in some of them. As long as you eat a varied diet the body will make whatever adjustments are needed. Protein deficiency is not a real concern for vegetarians.
