I don't have any festive plans for the holiday. My plan is to stay inside, sew, maybe paint, and read.

I don't have plans as of yet. I was thinking in hitting the beach early since this is the first above 80 degrees and sunny day of the summer ( I know! mother nature is hating us right now... i think it has to do with the mutants in inhabiting the Hudson River... any way i digress)
but now with all of this talk of Hebrew nationals and such ( from the few US'ers, I think I am going to have to take some initiative....

Call some friend and persuade them in throwing a BBQ

Since 1) it's my Mother-in-Law's birthday that I have to attend every year, and 2) I just had back surgery and can't travel, I'll get to stay home for this 4th and check out Fry's deals.

I have a four day weekend, due to asking for Friday off. This gives me Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off (assuming I don't answer the phone!)
Thursday I'm meeting Rebarnmom for MR Donut day. Friday is the carnival and the country concert, Saturday is the art show (and probably a second dose of carnival), and Sunday's the fireworks. Somewhere in there I'm going to grill hamburgers and hotdogs and make potato salad.

How great for you!! It was so nice to meet the people at the NoVa meet-up. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I know you both will, too! I wish I were back in IL and could join you.

I thought I'd barbecue some swedes for my sandwich!

whoops, wrong thread...

I didn't answer, none of the answers seemed to fit. Mostly because I'm not sure. We might grill, but we don't have a grill anymore. Or we might go to the beach, but we're going to the mainland on the red-eye that night, so probably we'll be frantically packing, passively-aggressively yelling at each other for not having packed sooner. Mostly I'll get the blame, as I don't have a workplace to head to each morning right now. But I'm always responsible for packing the kids' stuff anyway, otherwise they'd have like 7 shirts, 50 thousand toys and no pants (of either type- the under or the over) and certainly no toothbrush. And that's if my husband packs. Heck, we're all lucky if he remembers to pack underwear for himself.

Don't laugh! When the older two kids got to the point that I thought I could trust them to pack their own suitcases (they assured me they could handle it and to quit bugging them ), we arrived in FL to realize that Shannon had, indeed, forgotten to pack any underwear! Thankfully we were going to Grandma's house and since my mother is a card carrying member of Super Shoppers of America, we were at the mall replenishing the missing items in no time!! Needless to say since that time, Shannon has been asked at least once before we leave for a trip by every member of the family if she has packed her unmentionables. She is non-too-pleased by this, let me tell you.

hey it's easy to do! my senior of high school was, as I've said at a boardding school. our winter break was 5 weeks because there were so many students that had intense traveling to do. my break was going home to Colorado for 3 days, then to Florida for 2 weeks, then back to Colorado for a cross country ski trip, and then home home to Boulder for the duration. that's a LOT of different types of clothes to remember and nary a pair of undies in the bunch! I remembered everything else AND two pair of skis!

With all you had to contend with it would be easy to forget something. Unfortunately for Shannon, all she had to do was pack in her own room to fly down to Grandma's. There really was no excuse other than she wasn't paying attention to what she was doing! And that was typical behavior for Shannon during her teen years. Thank goodness we all got through that phase in one piece!
