Although I'm not sure how long the battery will last altogether (as I've only had mine for a few weeks and it might also depend on usage) I can say I fully charged my Kindle 2 10 days ago and it still has plenty of juice left in it - not even half-way on the charge. It seems to dspend on if you keep the wireless option on or off. I opt to have it off unless I am ordering a book. I ordered several book samples (and received full chapters of about 15 books), turned off the wireless, read through several of the samples, turned the wireless on, ordered my book (took about 5 seconds) and then turned the wireless off again.

I assume you mean how long with it last overall and not how long will it hold a single charge.

In that case you should get solid use out of it for a good three years before you notice any degradation.

Was just going to say if you can't decide between the three you can always go with the Sony PRS-505.

I agree. I know I'm in the minority, but I actually *like* the buttons on the K1 the best. It only took me a short time to learn how to pick it up and put it down without accidentally hitting the buttons. When I'm actually reading with it, it's very nice to have the big, easy to press buttons that are accessible from a variety of holding positions.

If your daughter is ever short of cash you might nudge her toward some of the free classics (Treasure Island, Sherlock Holmes, Pride and Prejudice, Huckleberry Finn) available here or at Feedbooks or Manybooks.

I dip into them whenever I'm feeling strapped for cash myself--and I was a lot poorer when I was a teen.
