i did already ! but i'm up again (wishing i could go back...). i have Things To Do (so far unsuccessfully). including going out to see a friend's end of the year show. really not motivated at all. have a headache. wondering if she will hate me forever if i skip it just this once.

Ooh, sorry about the headache!

You know the routine -- lots of liquids, some aspirin, hot tea, etc. I hope you feel better soon.

sheesh, me too.

i'm drinking lots of water but it's quite hot today in fact so tea is not so tempting (although i'm thinking of making some mint tea, or maybe ginger, it's good for a wobbly stomach).

what do you think, would it be acceptable to skip my friend's show ? particularly in light of my big contract starting tomorrow, for which i should really be as well-rested as possible (off to a bad start on that count...) ?

ha, apparently not all friends understand that ! i've just had a call which was the virtual equivalent of the thumbscrews trying to pressure me into going tonight !

now i feel guilty, even though i usually do go. but it's really far away from my house (it will take me about 1 hour of métro / subway train to get there), and even if i don't stay for the picnic afterwards i probably wouldn't get home until around 11 at night, and... i don't want to !

i don't know why they had to plan this for a sunday... of course, if they had planned it for yesterday, i would have missed it as well probably, since i had a ticket to the theater.

flowers ??? i don't feel THAT guilty !!! and i did explain my reasons, which are legitimate after all... hangover, tired, starting big and exhausting contract tomorrow morning... clearly not a good evening to go out.

Turn up, but arrange for someone to give you an 'emergency' phone call for shortly after you arrive?

What I normally do is throw myself down stairs until I break something.

If he doesn't understand that, then is he a friend you really need to keep?? If you feel awful, you feel awful. Your friend should be a little more concerned with how you feel then about your command performance.

My two cents anyway.

I'm still working on my pet-sitter's laptop at the moment. It's going to top out at about 104 today, and I don't much feel like doing anything outdoors. So I'm trying to get as much inside stuff done as possible.

This morning was interesting. My neighbor, Teresa, came to run my doggies for me (which she usually does on the weekends, and then I take care of her doggies during the week). My lawnmower died, so I had borrowed hers. While she ran the dogs, I mowed my lawn (while it was still around 80 out and tolerable).

I finished the stuff I had to mow, and so I just mowed my way over to her house and started to mow her lawn. So, just as she came up with my dogs, a new neighbor (that we have both met, but don't know all that well) came out of his house. He did a bit of a double take, as far as he could tell I was mowing the wrong lawn and she was walking the wrong dogs.

I told him it was "National Switch Chores Day."

It's true my repertoire is now exhausted.

But I hope you've decided you are NOT going - you'll feel miserable, you won't be very good company, and it won't do you any good for tomorrow - so going ain't going to happen (I hope).

The problem is minimising the guilt-trip. And I don't see why you should have one - you've been there for her in the past, this time you need a bit of consideration in return. So stay home, relax, and get better for tomorrow is my advice.
