This makes 3. Ed McMahon (who I just worked with last September), Farrah and Michael. Not a good week.
It sounds as though they took him to UCLA Med Center (my old stomping grounds), and that there will be lives news from there in the next few hours. Myself, I only really liked two of his songs (Thriller and Black and White), and the man himself had a massive image problem. However, I wouldn't wish death on him.

You are more than coherent, and not being aware of some of the subtleties of a language certainly doesn't make you incapable of communicating quite well in it. My smattering of Danish sort of leaked out of my ears in the 70s. I'm not sure I could even remember how to order a decent meal anymore.

Those things always either depress or bore me. I think I'll dive back into my Discworld books and allow Death himself to explain it all to me.

When in doubt revert to Latin - the classic language - Bigius Macious, with Largius frys and a Vanilla Shakious please.

@Laz116: I have read your posts and didn't realise English was not your first language - now that means either you are really good - or I (as a born and breed Englishman) am really cr*p at my own language.

I prefer the former

Michael will end up up there with Elvis: The two reigning Kings of Pop, who both died as they lived.

Ty very much. I have to go to England (Leeds) as a part of my studies this fall. I hope it will improve my written English, but moreso my oral English (which is really really bad, since I normally speak before my train of thought has arrived at its destination... not a good idea, when you think Danish and have to speak English).

As it happens, I'm working this week with a bunch of young pre=teen and teen dancers and many of them are doing moves I first saw Michael perform. Just yesterday one was goofing around doing that Billy Jean toe thing and I captured pictures of it and gave it to her.

iPhones were buzzing around me as the news rolled out. There are already huge crowds at UCLA. Luckily, I don't have to travel the 405 to get home today.

And another similarity to Elvis, which I am already hearing via local talk radio: rumors are already flying that he faked his own death.

Keep an eye out at your local 7-11 - the King of Pop may be buying a Slurpee!

(P.S. - do NOT believe anyone on radio or TV who says how sad they feel. I used to work for a local radio station and trust me, two dead celebrities in one day is GREAT news for them - it's what they LIVE for!)

That is so true! I was flipping around the cable news channels this evening between 6:30 and 7pm (East Coast, US), and the guy on CNN (or was it Headline News?) kept saying: "Michael Jackson, DEAD at fifty." It was like he was enunciating the word "dead" for a try-out at the local community Shakespearean theater --- just loving the feel of the word as it rolled off his tongue over and over again with different inflections. Shep Smith over at Fox News had a terrific adrenaline buzz going at the same time.

Media types live for this stuff: it defines and gives a certain meaning to their ephemeral lives. Lawrence Taylor, the great football linebacker for the New York Giants, had a telling comment about this. He was being interviewed many years ago on the Today Show by Bryant Gumbel, and he said that television newspeople "celebrate" the tragedy of others. Gumbel tried to correct him by saying that "we report the news, not celebrate it!" But I'm with Taylor on this one.
