Waay overdue: Public respect for science fiction. Even tawdry romance lit gets more respect! And we gave the world pocket computers... robots... cellphones... space travel... television... uh... micro-miniaturized everything... (Hey, what did romance lit invent? Sex was already here!) |

. . .Why must you disparage one genre to inflate the importance of another genre?. . . Who said there is public respect for chick lit, aka. romance lit? Why do you think someone invented book covers?

(*Based on a study of the dozen or so people I worked with when I used to work in a bookshop... ) (Edited to add: this is not how I think of people who read chick-lit, but it was how most of my co-workers did )

I have been known to read and enjoy chick lit and sci fi - I hope that doesn't expodentially compound my airheadedness |

I guess there's no hope for you. I happen to like both Sci-Fi and Romance, although I will say I prefer romance. I like happy endings. I think life is hard enough to deal with without reading something that will depress me during my "off hours". That's why I prefer romantic comedies and action movies. I don't have to be real cerebral, I can just enjoy it! Bottom line, though, wouldn't it be nice if we could do away with all stereotypes and just accept each other for what/who we are. I think that is something that is DEFINITELY way over due.

What would happen to all those people who specialize in lying, cheating, and stealing? Not to mention sucking up. You want a world where ability and talent actually matter? Officer, I never met her before in my life....

At first I thought "To give artists an excuse to paint tawdry, risque pictures of shirtless men and and barely covered bosoms." Then I realized you mean the type of cover that obscures the naughty paintings. Isn't that one of the reasons we have ebook readers? When someone asks what you're reading you can quickly switch to some Jane Austen before showing off your technological toy. |
