I didn't say HOW MUCH respect there was for chick lit... just that it had more than sci-fi! (At least chick-lit readers are depicted in popular culture as normal people with a somewhat guilty reading pleasure, as opposed to smelly geeks who will never get girls...)

I happen to like both Sci-Fi and Romance, although I will say I prefer romance. I like happy endings. I think life is hard enough to deal with without reading something that will depress me during my "off hours". That's why I prefer romantic comedies and action movies. I don't have to be real cerebral, I can just enjoy it!

Bottom line, though, wouldn't it be nice if we could do away with all stereotypes and just accept each other for what/who we are. I think that is something that is DEFINITELY way over due.
