And you didn't mention anything about humidity. Everything about 35 degrees celcius here will kill you (even when doing nothing, in the shade), while when I was in NM, you hardly noticed it (until you went walking in the sun).

It's usually pretty humid where VR is, so it's pretty much like 80F anywhere else if I'm not mistaken.

I think the pooch will be poached, as in: to cook (eggs, fish, fruits, puppies, etc.) in a hot liquid that is kept just below the boiling point by noon.

I lucked out with the service guy who learned he was going to have to replace the fan motor in a scorching attic this afternoon if he didn't swing by my place before his first job. And the motor is under warranty which will save me about $500. The bad news is that he doesn't have one in stock and can't get us up and running before tomorrow. So it will be a night in a hotel for us (and kennel for the pooch). POOL TIME!

Humidity? We live 50 miles from the Gulf of Mexico where the water temp is currently 84 F. Yeah, you could say it's humid.

Today is another scorcher. If you sit on the concrete steps outside this building, it blisters bare legs. The sun is so strong that you can get a tan in the privacy of your own basement. I love it!

Houses were built differently back then. Instead of cookie cutter houses jigsaw-puzzled onto tiny lots in subdivisions, houses were set on hilltops and oriented to catch the breeze but not the hot western sun. I always think "coolness" when I think of my Granny's and Papa's house. We spent our summers mostly with them, since both parents worked. The lace curtains in the windows blew inward all the time because of the breeze. If us kids got hot, we would go out to the porch and swing until the wind cooled us off.

She would even cook and can food with only a fan to cool her off!

Our home is a ninety year old brick house with long overhangs that keep teh sun out of the upstairs. It has thick walls and tons of windows. The windows, when all open allow lots of air circulation. There is a house fan in the attic that we turn on at night that pulls all the night time air into the house. There is a chiller in the basement, that if we run the sprinklers all day and turn on the fan, pushed chilled air into the core of the house through the laundry chute. (La Crosse has more than abundant water and the sprinkling recharges the aquafer or runs to the river, which then recharges the aquafer.) We have no air conditioners. When it got to 97 degrees yesterday, we were a bit uncomfortable when we went to bed, but fans solved the problem and we were comfortable the rest of the night.

Winters, here, on the other hand are miserable and brutal...
