Just finished 'A Man on the Moon: the voyages of the Apollo astronauts' by Andrew Chaikin which was a fantastic read!
![]() Lots of insight into what went on with each mission, as well as the people who made them happen. Very inspirational. Now started 'The Gargoyle' by Andrew Davidson. Picked it up out of curiosity at the library. The librarian noticed and recommended it, so I put it at the top of the pile. 84 pages in, and it's been gripping so far. |

Taylor Anderson - Destroyermen
I just finished the first book....
and started the second - a incredible alternate world/timeline story involving a WWII ship and crew..., and even better, the trilogy was released only months apart, so no long wait fir each new book.... Only drawback, I bought the e-book in PDF DRM - so I cannot send it to my Palm handheld.... |

I'm reading a Southern Vampire Mysteries (aka Sookie Stackhouse) book, Club Dead. It's my third SVM book in two days, and I can't stop reading them.

I've only seen bits and pieces of the show (I, er, can't stand Anna Paquin's acting (and fake blond hair)), but I think so. The show seems more melodramatic? And I think the books are a little more funny-- kind of black comedy-ish.
But I haven't actually watched a whole episode, so I really don't know. ![]() |

I am currently reading "The Coming of the Third Reich" by Richard Evans. So far, it is fascinating as he goes all the way back to Bismark's time as the basis for the Third Reich.

Just finished 'Mistress of the Art of Death' by Ariana Franklin. It was very, very good. My one regret was that the map at the beginning was too small to read on my ipod screen, and did not transfer onto my Sony once I got done with liberating the file from the DRM, so I could not make it out at all, and as I am not familiar with the geography of 12th century Cambridge, England, I felt myself wishing for it at times. I will have to go a bricks and mortar store when out tomorrow to look at up in the print version.
Also, it annoys me that the sequels to this book (which I, as always, bought when it was on sale, at a massive discount) are rather over-priced. The reviews on them were only so-so, so I am going to get them from the library. This was 3/50 for my summer reading challenge... |

I just finished reading A Betrayal in Winter by Daniel Abraham. It's the second in his Long Price Quartet and an excellent book. The first book in the series, A Shadow in Summer was one of the freebies that TOR gave away last year in their ramp-up to their new web fan site.
It took a long time for the rest of the series to show up in electronic editions, and this one is an .azw1 file, which is one of the "Topaz" conversions. I found some of the usual annoyances with the Topaz formatting: broken characters, bad spacing, and the occasional missing word. But these were not significant enough to detract from the story. I don't know if it is available at any other bookstore or not -- the Topaz format would imply that the publisher has not yet gotten around to producing/releasing a proper eBook. |

Clifford Simak has a lovely way of writing an entertaining story while making you think about humanity's purpose in the universe at the same time. any of his books/stories are highly recommended. |

Just finished "Dead Until Dark" by Charlaine Harris, after "Santa Olivia" by Jacqueline Carey.
Pretty entertaining, both of them, each in their genre ! I may buy the 2nd book of the Southern Vampire Series, if I can bypass the geographical restriction ! ![]() Now I must dive in "King Solomon's Mines" ! ![]() |
