that's lovely. and totally unsuited to the zcd experience, of course, being entirely un-explosive.

Should polls not be pools (as for otters) or possibly holes (as in sink)?

I've tried and I don't.

I've read science fiction since I was seven years old, for over fifty years in fact. I have read thousands if not tens of thousands of science fiction books, many twice or more. But... But, I can not read those. I have no idea why, perhaps because they contain so many ideas I've see before better presented. The series seems facile to me, without something I can get my teeth into. Yes, Yes this is coming from someone that thinks the Star Wars movie trilogy is good stuff. Perhaps I'm the facile thing in the equation.

hum ! interesting ! i don't think i've ever met anyone who didn't like the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy before ! i love it but i don't read it as science fiction, i read it as humour (i've got nothing against science fiction but it's not a genre i read much either), perhaps that makes a difference. personally i never get tired of douglas adams' writing although i think i may have a preference for the Dirk Gently series. have you tried those ? they are much less science fiction-y than the H2G2, so if that is what prevents you from enjoying the books it might not bother you here. the first one is called "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency", the second one is "The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul" and they are really brilliant. heu, if you like that sort of thing, i mean.
