it appears that when i was at work that i was being paid according to my iq score .... which would mean that in retirement i am underpaid ....

This surprises you? Perhaps it's different where you work, but in the (very large) company I work for, when one writes a presentation for very senior management, one generally has to pitch it at about the level of a 4 year old child, with lots of brightly-coloured charts and very simple words

I stopped equating "amount of money earned" with "success". Although as a teacher, clearly I've wrestled - and lost - that argument!

I value the relative independence of teaching vs the potential of making more money. Additional money won't really change the level of my life style, but a more demanding and stressful job certainly would. Perhaps having better overall working/living conditions, even at the cost of earning less money, is what higher intelligence is really all about?

--- Or, I could easily be rationalizing!!! ;-)
