Is it true that library check out won't work for Mac users?

I can't believe this... I actually had to go and turn on my reader and make myself notice the black page! The only thing I ever saw was the battery charge indicator turn white then back to black! Amazing!!
Noooo.... I don't think it will be a problem for you. Stitchawl |

If it's a library that uses ADE, you'll first need to register your Reader with the Adobe software. The only way to do that (that I'm aware of) is on a PC with both the Sony software and ADE running at the same time. Once the Reader has been registered with your account, though, you can download/transfer the books with no problem on a Mac.
A couple of ways of doing this are borrowing a friend/family member's pc/laptop for 5 minutes while you take care of the registration process. Or if you're more technically inclined, you could download a demo or purchase a copy of Parallels or vmWare for your Mac (both are virtual machine software) and install a copy of Windows on that (the Release Candidate of Windows 7 is free for the time being). I recommend going that route (only if you feel comfortable with it, though), as that also opens the door to being able to run all of the Windows-only deDRMing, book formatting, conversion, etc tools that are available (plus any other Windows program you might want to run). |

I've gotten to the point, with my 505, that I hit the "next page" button before I've actually *gotten* to the end of the page. (Just like most people will grab the corner of the page on a pbook, prepairing to turn it before your eyes get to the end of the page). Sometimes, it turns *before* I've actually gotten to the end of the page, and I have to go *back* to read the end of the last line! So I really think you'll adapt to it just fine...

It's not an issue - I've read about 15 books on my reader in the last ten days and the black doesn't bother me at all. I still see it, but it doesn't bother me.

I think it's a non-issue since all of the e-ink readers have it.
IMO-it's not even a "flash" to a totally black scree, but it is quick and subtle. many people claim to get "in sync" with it visually and automatically blink at the transition. You really get the timing on the page turn down after a while. I have a Kindle 1 and the turning speed is slightly different, but you adapt quickly. |
