The slower page turns on DR might be caused by additional PDF processing that is responsible for removing white space margins.

I don't care about the 3G or amazon store as I don't buy anything from there. I was hoping the DX would render the pdf's flawlessly, have a slightly smaller screen with much better battery time and a better form factor. The feel of it is nicer than the 1000 because of it's slim size and rectangular The "perfect" reader device for me would be the DX with a black/charcoal bezel, properly displayed pdf's and better document management such as folders. A keyboard isn't necessary for my dream device either, I'd rather have more screen room or a smaller form factor. I would also rather have capacitive buttons as it's quieter and easier for me to use. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. If anyone has ideas for pictures just shoot me some suggestions, I am not a professional photographer so I don't want to disappoint lol I agree with that, I don't know the hardware spec differences for processing power if there is a big difference. Some of the pdf's that rendered perfectly turned pages just as quickly as those with tiny print, at least it seemed like that to me. |

In other words - KDX is not an alternative to DR if pdf support is your main priority. Why haven't they (amazon) seized the opportunity to make their product - THE ebook reader?

yes the DX purchase was a crapshoot purchase knowing I could return it if I hated it or deal with it and pray for better pdf support down the road. I bought the 1000 thinking that the "open" platform would yield better results and more updates since my K1 received very few updates since I've had it. I'm heading home and will put some comparison pics up later...

excuse the lame photography but it's an example between the 2 units. The one thing I noticed side by side is that the font is much clearer/darker on the 1000 and the DX is pretty light, even more so than K1. I think I read other forums stating the same thing with a light text color on the DX. Side by side page turns and refresh rates, the DX blows away my 1000 on a number of different .pdf's that I chose.

Thanks for the info. I was aware of that. But I was looking for a more permanent and easier solution, one which also works at every website. A cheap US mail address (if they just forward it every 3 months or so) would be perfect. Then I would be just like an American, hehehe.

So the DX turns pages faster than the DR, how about open a file? Is there obvious difference? |

DX doesn't crop PDFs, nor it can zoom them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, are you saying that the contrast ratio (background whiteness vs text blackness) is better on the dr? Looking at your pictures it seems pretty much the same to me. Last edited by olis; 06-17-2009 at 10:05 AM. |

taken from the kindleDX user guide: Kindle DX can display a PDF document without losing the formatting of the original file. (You cannot change the text size on menus, in PDF files, or on Kindle screens, such as the Home screen or the Kindle Store.) 3.6 Reading PDF files Your Kindle DX is able to display most PDF documents. When your Kindle is held in portrait orientation, PDF documents are displayed in their original layout and fit the entire screen of the device. White margins of PDF documents are automatically cropped to maximize the amount of content shown on the screen. Quote:
