I picked "I do all the asking", though it's not strictly true. Certainly when the feature arose, it was a befriender that brought it to my attention, and then others that continued, but, since then, almost exclusively it's been me to hit the "Befriend" button (which also means that, if I've not tried to do so with some of you here, it's a product of poor memory - thinking I already had - or procrastination rather than any concept of selectivity).

I'm not sure why I'm the one sending them, rather than receiving. I don't think anyone has "rejected" it - the recipients seem to feel the same enthusiasm as I at the notion of becoming "friends", but I just don't get the invites myself. Perhaps my rare moments of foolishness are off-putting. [shrugs]

The odd thing is, I'm not a social person, and "in real life" I don't make friends easily, or at all pretty much, and don't attempt to. Overtures of friendship are not a significant part of my personality.

Ah, well, it's all a rich tapestry.

Cheers,
Marc

Sometimes/Sometimes (and "other," of course. ) I think I've been invited more than I've invited, because I keep forgetting the feature is there. (oops.) I don't believe I have ever turned down an invite.

I'd like to see a "Post by Friends" view that would show me all the threads my friends have been active in, so I could keep up with you, but then again, I can't even keep up with the threads I'm already participating in.

You have to wait for the Poll fairy to visit!

Sometimes ask, sometimes get asked. I've got some friends who are no longer with us, more's the pity...

I'm kind of introvert. I often wonder if that is why I like reading.....

You got me, I checked, thanks!

I think online gives people a chance to be who they really are (or who they are not) and it comes with little risk, initially. Get a bad response? There are thousands of forums out there. Try another. But once you commit to a forum (such as MR) rejection would hurt. People who look different, act different, are shy, etc have an easier time online as they can kind of mold themselves into who they represented. Plus, I think most online communities are more accepting of the unusual (this one in particular ).

I ramble because it's not the Word! Thread and I can. And also because I have thought of this before. I am not super shy and I make friends relatively easily, but I have always been a little quirkier than the average gal tends to be and I constantly edit myself irl. No editing necessary here!

And now I must shower. My fingers are numb from typing this out on a crackberry and I have a big day planned. But Marc, I leave with this golden moment: "thank you for being my friend". (You have to imagine Bea Arthur singing it for full effect)

I'm only now just figuring out how to do that, and make photo albums and such. I'm probably more reluctant to be the one to ask.
