And we're very grateful to all the advances in the scientific and medical communities, as well as positive attitudes and personal strengthes and lots of love that worked together to result in that outcome.
May it last forever. ![]() |

I remain astounded how far we have to go. X-rays are only necessary because we have yet to figure out better ways to image tissue that is only a few centimeters beneath the surface of the skin. You can travel across the planet in a jiffy but you still have to get your private parts pinched so a doctor can get a blurry image of what's inside. Combined with the average doctor's nearly medieval diagnostic tools ("Have you had a fever or any chest pains recently?") and the fact he as about 13.5 seconds to spend with each patient, we may as well read tea leaves to figure out if we have a problem and how to cure it.

I think we must be lucky in that most of our GP appointments last at least 20 minutes, with 45 minutes not unusual ..... |

I would say that mine usually last about an hour and a half. But only about 3 to 5 minutes is spent with the physician. And half of his time is spent taking my blood pressure (which had just been taken by the nurse 10 minutes earlier).

Internal Dialogue: "He's not dead yet. I'm pretty certain the nurse would have told me if he was dead. Nothing specific on the chief complaint, so I can't ask him about that. If I ask him what he's here for, I'll either get an hour on his brother in law's sciatica and a request for Mylanta, or a blank stare follwed by 'Isn't it obvious doctor?' I really should stop surfing Mobile Read between patients and actually read the charts before I come in here." External Dialogue: "Looks good to me. Any problems with the meds? No? Okay fine. See you in a year!" |

They STILL haven't brought back the regular Aquafina (and Coke, etc) bottles. Still that thin plastic that squishes and spews liquid all over when you open it. 50% less plastic = double the cussing!

![]() I'm given to understand that guys have some unpleasant medical procedures of their own, however. Today all this is a mere distraction from the pain in the back of my jaw where the endodontist had to keep me pried open so she could drill out the roots of tooth #30. Bleah. At least the tooth itself doesn't hurt any more. |

Stupid Lifeguard!!
I am mad enough to spit! Last evening at the univ gym, a stupid thieving lifeguard was messing with my bag. I yelled, "What are you doing?" Then he dropped it onto the concrete around the pool.
Broke the little hinge that holds the lighted cover and reader together! Nobody in charge after 5:00 is a native speaker of English. So I pitched a fit at 2 chinese guys in what was basically an uncomprehending blank wall. This morning, I've been calling the administrators and leaving phone messages, since apparently no one at this university is able to answer their own phones. Now I've fired of a long scathing email to all 4 directors of the gym program, with no reply yet. I'm furious! What was that slimy little workstudy lifeguard thinking, trying to look into people's bags - right there in front of everyone! It would have been better if he had dropped it into the water, since the bag is waterproof. But nooooo, the little thief had to drop it onto concrete. I want to scream! ROAR! |

If you have a friend who is a lawyer, you might want him/her to write a sharply worded memo to the Provost, requesting that someone pay attention to the problem. That generally gets action and stisfaction quickly.

EDIT: One of the directors called to say they aren't ignoring me, but they have to talk to the lifeguard also. I doubt this is going to come out well for me. Last edited by DixieGal; 06-16-2009 at 11:12 AM. |
