I'd love to mark Heaven and life after death, also reincarnation. But I had to go the other way.
Wouldn't be great to be like the Atheist on the Brothers Karamazov book who walked a zillion miles to find heaven and fell on his knes? I'd love to.....

Pdcurrant made the rules of the poll, but you make an interesting points. It is tv same with clones (and possibly teleportation) if you do not carry on you past experiences and conciousness, this is not imortality. Even if your clone or reincarnate body has copies of them.

A few years ago, a radio talk show host was dismayed at how those who had themselves frozen for later resuscitation, at how they would feel bad at how they lost so much time in heaven.

I mean, what does death mean to a person with this belief? Did god withold heaven while their corpse was in deep freeze?

I have no answers. And I disbelieve anyone elses.

Sha La La live for today.

I need a Tillichian/existential "ground of being" option. I'm not a big fan of traditional conceptions of theism.

But for this I picked "theism/evolution/human evolution" and nothing else. I don't have a serious opinion regarding any form of afterlife/reincarnation/etc... I don't think it is relevant to anything even if there is.

I wonder about this.
Although it is true that your present self will expire despite a copy of you being made (cloning, teleportation etc.) - the experience of that copy will be that you have continued beyond that expiration.

So, does it ultimately matter if your present 'you' has ceased to exist - if your copy believes otherwise. After all, your current body is a different one to the one you had a decade ago - even though it seems the same.

If the illusion is good enough, the reality may not matter.

life after death does not necessarily mean reincarnation. there is a possibility that the soul lives on in another form without re-birth (as implied in you definition of reincarnation).

Is there any comfort in that?
If I have a soul, I'm not aware of it - how will I benefit from it's continued existence, any more than knowing my body will live on in worms, and plants.

It's nice to feel part of the whole, but it doesn't make me any less dead.

(Maybe it's your soul (spirit) that dies, and your corporeal components that go on forever. )

Reincarnation (from the Hindu-Buddhist philosophy of soul transmigration)
The status of each successive body, whether human or animal, is the direct result of the quality of the life the soul led in the previous body. Thus, a "good" life results in rebirth to a higher quality form, and a "bad" life results in rebirth to a lower quality form. This forward and backward progression is based on the Law of Karma, -
(does this have anything to do with the karma awarded here on MR?)
Dread to think what I would be next time round

Was it there I would vote for Agnostic. Whilst you could say this is covered by the thesim/desim/beliefs, I don't think it is.
Another is the parallel universe theory, where if we die in one we continue in another.

But! maybe we are all just figments of MR's or some other computers imagination and don't actually exist.

So! how do you know you actually exist?

Wow, almost 3 times as many say they believe in the blue one next to the fish then Creationism. Hmm. Someone is not being honest, me thinks.

Well if you can believe in the blue one next to the fish that you can't see, you oughta be able to believe in God who you cam't see. See? But it's a moot point since you already said you would disbelieve anyone elses answers.

How do you like your Palm 72. I have one I used to really like but it won't hold a charge. You would think they could maked them with replaceable batteries.

The Palm 72S is back in a corner somewhere unused, and unseen. I am not even sure I believe in it anymore

Donn

P.S. I see the blue one next to the fish all the time, after all it is blue and right next to the fish.

As a follower of John Sebastian of the Lovin' Spoonful:
Do you believe in magic
In a young girls heart
How the music can free her
Whenever it starts
...
Believe in the magic of a young girl's soul
Believe in the magic of rock ' roll
Believe in the magic that can set you free ....

The one that's really surprised me is the 33% (so far) atheists.

My home town has the highest proportion of atheists in the UK - 27% (2001 census) and I rather expected to see fewer here. Overall, England has around 15% atheists.

I am disappointed to see how few believe in the blue one next to the fish. I expected to get near 100% on that one, here at mobileread.
