If we ever get back on topic I just want to say that I am leaning toward a Sony because of the $150 off they re supposed to be offering. Sorry DG but these are tough economic times.

Well, you know best what's in your wallet, but if it's not merely a question of sheer affordability - that is, if you could buy either and are being persuaded by the (wide) difference in price - I suggest you rethink.

My experience has been that I'm always happier if I can ignore price and get what I really want. Sometimes price is a real constraint - I want a Mercedes but I have a Honda. But other times, it's just a calculation.

I bought a Sony 505, and then a Kindle 2. I was much happier with the Kindle 2. I gave my son my Sony and told him he could have it if he liked it. He's buying a Kindle 2.

If at all possible, try them both out before settling on one or the other. All other things being equal, go with price. But consider whether it is really cheaper to buy a Sony for 200 if you wind up dissatisfied with it - even, perhaps, to the point that you don't use it much.

Well it's too late because I ordered the Sony. If they come through with the promos it will be $150. I have a Palm TX for ebooks which as you know is not real adequate on several levels. I couldn't justify $360 for a K2 that I couldn't even connect to in my area.
We are moving to Northern WI next month.

I didn't have access to anyone with a Kindle in order to check it out but think both the K2 and Sony are good ereaders and reading books is all I want to do with it.
