Nonetheless, my previous comments stand. Fighting fire with fire just burns the building down faster.

Are we still on? Is this mic on? It is? OK.

The fact that this thread has gone 30 posts without a single reply from the OP is very telling. I have not been here long enough to disagree with anyone but myself. I like Harry and DG. Do I need professional help?

I'm gonna throw a shot in the dark here...

The OP just likes to stir the pot. simply. In the LOTR thread (which I thankfully unsubscribed from) Is a good thread because many of the members provided valid reasons to their opinions whether it was yay or nay for LOTR. The OP did not do the same.

The same is occuring now. I hope he can defend himself in an adult/classy manner....

WHat is the point. Yes I have a brain. Yes, I am sure most think I do not use it at MR. Look. I stirred the pot. I think the criticism is good .... of me or whoever. but what is the point. I said a thing or two and now... The "knowledgeable" ones tell me the CORRECT answer. Now. Does that make you happier?

I have responded. As Bertold Told me. I am Wrong.....YOU are right. Enjoy.

Thank you for the notice. I have been enjoying MR for quite awhile. However, usually with a small opinion....... THAT I am learning again is the correct way.

If someone believes in astrology, I might mock that opinion*. But people can believe the strangest things without it affecting their judgement on other matters — which is why I wouldn't mock the person, just the opinion.

I've no doubt that some of my opinions are completely erroneous. The problem being, of course, that it's impossible for me to be sure which ones....

A reasoned argument is usually more useful than mockery, but I feel that sometimes showing someone how silly they're being in an amusing way (well, amusing to me) can work where logical argument might not.

*Although I can't possibly do better on Astrology than Donald Swann's short song:

"Jupiter has passed through Orion
And come into conjunction with Mars;
Saturn is wheeling through infinite space
To its pre-ordained place in the stars!

And I look at the planets in wonder,
At the trouble and time they expend.
All to warn me to be careful.....
....In Dealings Involving A Friend!"

Although it could just as easily (or more easily) offend the person and make them altogether unreceptive to any ideas coming from your direction.

I understand what you are saying, pdurrant... I am even in the habit of doing just that myself. But, in thoughtful moments, I don't think it's a good way forward.

I want to keep putting arguments forward in favour of mockery, but I'm resisting because, in my thoughtful moments, I think you're probably right.
