What bothers me about the Q7 is the battery. As I understand it, the battery is not user-accessible. This means that in a few years, it will not be usable, right?

And I have often crashed my N800 or N810. My solution: remove the battery, replace it and reboot! With the Q7 I will have to wait till the battery runs out of power to get it to reboot that way?
I just press the reset button on the bottom to reboot it.

Yeah the battery isn't user-accessible. I saw some unscrewing of it on jtblog. I'm not too concerned though, I've never had to replace a battery of my other gadgets yet that are user accessible, though I did get a spare extended one for my Axim as the battery life wasn't good on the normal size.

It actually supports 32GB, as I have one and it works. The problem is, you can't install anything on it with SDHC and must use a normal SD card to do it. Some people have reported success with SDHC, but it seems its intermittant.

So you're using a 32GB SD, or a 32GB SDHC?

I'm going to buy one soon; I'm hoping to merge the onboard flash with the SD Card, and just leave it in there permanently. I'd like to know what's the best thing to do...

If anyone has flashed Mer on, what do you think? It's pretty crash-prone (no slight to the Mer project, it's still a baby.)

But Jaunty is there, underneath... When Mer crashes, it drops to console (excellent) but doesn't recognize my USB keyboard (not excellent.)

Anyone know what to add via apt-get to get the keyboard working at the prompt?

Thanks,

I'm actually using 3 different cards. I've got a 32GB SDHC for music and pictures, and two 2GB SD cards for eBooks and Comics. The Comix comic viewer seems to have problems with the SDHC card in. I can't run GDebi Package Installer at all with the SDHC (SD Card Init Failure). This seems to be a problem expressed frequently on the chinese forums (I used google translate to figure it out).

Think it's the card reader firmware?

I'm surprised that at this date, there might still be trouble with the format.

Oh, and I think that there's some sort of kludge with the way that they used gdebi and the SD card reader -- they're linking to a compressed file on the SD card, which is, to my mind, just an ugly way to do it. But I understand why -- there's just 1 GB onboard, and they wanted to be able to add apps.

And they surely didn't want to give away 32 GB cards!

If it's not the firmware in the reader, then I suspect it will be solved. I'll certainly give it a try, (with an 8 GB SDHC card, first, so that if it doesn't work... )

ps: any idea what to add for single-user mode USB keyboard? I'm running Mer right now, and I need to work at the command-line, but no keyboard makes that pretty hard...

SDHC Card Compatibility

I saw your discussion of this earlier. It sounds like SD and SDHC cards need to be tested individually.

When I installed a MicroCenter IPSG 16GB SDHC Class 6 Card ($30+shipping), I had no trouble with installing Flite using GDebi.

I've tested it over a couple of days and there are no intermittent problems.

Do you think it's because your card is 32GB?

It may be how the card is formatted as well. You could try a full format (FAT32) instead of Quick Format in Windows or you could use GParted.

----

People who want more than 2GB on an SD card (not SDHC) can try the TOP RAM 4 GB Mini SD Card via its adapter. I was able to partitition this card (GParted) and used it to boot Mer on the Q7.

However, customers at Amazon have reported long-term problems. I originally purchased the TOP RAM 1.5 years ago for a Dell Axim x30 and have not had any problems since then. My usage may be different in that I don't pull the card in and out very often.

There are only SD cards up to 4GB, above that it's just SDHC.

BTW: From my Asus eeePC and several posts in different Netbook forums I've had very good results with Transcend SD and SDHC cards. They are very reliable, fast and compatible and not too pricey.
