I read it approximately 10 years ago also. I enjoyed it immensely while I was reading it, but I found out very soon afterwards that it felt kind of shallow: it did not make a durable impression on me.

My favorite book by Card, and one of my all-time favorite books, is Songmaster.

Already have the 505, but I'm still holding out a possibility of returning it and getting a Kindle. Sony is good, but there are so many books I cannot find on their site (or others) that Amazon has in Kindle format...hmmm, will have to make a decision soon.

I may have to pay your Kindle a wee little visit to compare...

Did you know that beer is a measurement of time? Yup. BBQing brats and burgers takes 1 beer. Chicken is 2 beers. Cleaning out the garage also takes two beers unless your wife has given you a list to follow. Then it's 3 beers.

In the last week or so I've read:
Betty Hechtman - Hooked on Murder. I'm sorry to say I did not enjoy it as much as I thought I would and as much as I wanted to.
Mary Stanton - Defending Angels. Now this one I LOVED, and went and bought the second book of the series to read next. Unique premise, she defends people who are in Purgatory, charged with one of the Seven Deadly Felonies.
Patricia Sprinkle - Death on a Family Tree. This one had so many twists and turns that it kept me guessing, which is always a good thing.
Sarah Atwell - Through a Glass, Deadly. I am enjoying this one, too. I'm about 2/3 through with it.

It's not really an improvement-type thing - just a different thing...like saying hello in a different language - one's not better than they other, just not the same...now, on to the beer and then Red Dwarf...unless there is Formula 1 in the way as that is #1 priority!!

I read "In the Woods" on the Kindle by Tana French ----- migod, that was SO GOOD!!! It's supposedly a detective thriller, but.......it's a wild anti-novel with a whole plotline that is never solved, no "throughline" as Stephen King says about his anti-novel, "The Colorado Kid" (which I read again directly after the French book to remind myself of this fascinating point). The anti-novel forces the reader to confront how much we want a STORY with beginning, middle, and end, and how much life doesn't give us those, if it doesn't want to.

"In the Woods" is a rereader.

Now I'm reading "True Detectives" by Kellerman, which is a more predictable ride, workmanlike, maybe a little tired. I admire Kellerman, though, he's done a good job over the years and is a real patriot, working hard all his life for children and mental health issues.
