Well, yeah, I guess I had a few all-nighters. And more than a few torturous exams that I totally botched. Somehow, though, I'm really remembering the wonderful stuff like.....like...... Hmm. Like what? Maybe this is like women and childbirth. They seem to selectively forget things like labor pains, poopy diapers, sleepless nights with cholicy babies, etc. from their first one and want to have another for reasons totally unknown.

Yeah --- I'm wondering if it's the being-20 and having very few cares in the world that you are remembering and missing. Still feeling invincible (that's why youngsters drive fast -- it'll never happen to THEM) ... and young and carefree.

I dunno if one can ever get THAT feeling back again.

maybe women do this with everything. that's why we take men back. go shopping even tho there are past due bills in our purse. eat a chocolate cake 3 times a week even though she has only one a week.... (who keeps track of weekly intake seriously?!)

What I liked best? Reading, it was all about reading and writing. And hanging out with the other hippies.

I went back to school awhile back to get my teaching degree. I was much more driven to get high marks than I was when I got my comp sci degree. I was also working a full-time job and had 2 young children at home. The stress was incredible. I'm all for learning, but there doesn't seem to be any way to recapture the freedom of youth.

Zelda, my friend, you and I are simpatico!! Because we live in the Shenandoah area of Virginia, my husband is forever begging me to go camping in the mountains.

I've told him I will only camp if we stay in a cabin that has running water, electricity, heating and air-conditioning, bathrooms a fully equipped kitchen and for the ultimate in roughing it, a hot-tub.

My idea of roughing it is staying at a 3 star hotel instead of a 4 star hotel.

actually i also went back to school to learn web design / coding a few years ago. it was only for one year, but it was an intensive program (my diploma from that is the equivalent of a 2-year program). there was nothing "free" or "carefree" about it ; i worked all the time, including evenings and weekends and christmas and new years (saddest holidays of my life !) and since that year those holidays fell on the weekend we didn't have a single day off. i thought i would DIE. but i did get my diploma.

but that experience (which i didn't jump into lightheartedly) only confirmed my feeling that ONCE IS ENOUGH for studying !

that said, i love to learn, informally.

tee hee ! i aspire to that idea of roughing it ! currently roughing it means i'm staying with friends who don't have a guest room / bed and i have to sleep on the living room floor.

when i visited my cousins in canada last year i had my own room in one place and my own SUITE (bedroom AND my own bathroom !!) in the other, which was nicer (and bigger... *snif* !) than my appartement at home ! i thought i was in heaven !

I've heard claims of an in-between state, but like the Higgs boson, I've yet to observe it...
