I don't think many people use firefox 2.0, as there is an active effort from mozilla to make them upgrade to 3.0. In my medium sized university, where i work as an admin, FF 2 has gotten to 0 since Christmas. (thats according to stats from our websites)

Just an FYI, I am still working on an major update.

I'm reworking the code to meet current standards since I didn't have a clue what I was doing first time, also there have been changes with the current Firefox branch.

I'm adding code back in right now to the new framework cleaning it up as I got. The stuff I'm working on in order are:

1) new code layout
2) new preferences dialogs
3) modularizing the steps so I can add lrf/mobi/epub as output formats
4) using the firefox 3.x threading code to make the gui more responsive while converting docs.
5) create a "Downloads" like view to show conversion status and log history.

As soon as #3 is done I'll put something out for folks to test. I'm also adding more logging code to make debugging easier.

I can't give an estimated time, I'm working on it as free time presents itself.

That is very exciting, Beowulf573! I'll be so happy to be back to downloading web pages again on my Mac, using FF3! Refresh my memory, do we presently have Mobi format support in Bookit?

No, the way I wrote it initially made it difficult to swap out the output format. It also made it difficult to debug problems. I'm hoping to correct both with the next release.

This might be a bad question, so forgive me. I would like to learn how to use this bookit plug in. Is this something I will need to use in collaboration with Calibre? Or can I do everything I need to just with this program. Basically what I'd want to do is convert some blogs to a format that I can read on my 505 (hopefully I said that right).

That's correct. You need calibre to do all of the actual conversion and copying of books. See http://www.heorot.org/wordpress/inde...ftware/bookit/

It should do what you want.

Happy happy, joy joy, I now have a working plugin that converts to lrf, epub and mobipocket.

I'll put out a "test if you feel lucky" release soon, yet to be done before that are:

1) hook all the menus up correctly
2) get the editor working again
3) get my mac back from the shop so I can test it! My motherboard blew out last weekend so I'm only testing on Windows right now.

My best guess is next week sometime for a release, depending upon how much free time I get.

I think this new version is going to be way better than the first.

Ok, if you're daring and feel lucky I've uploaded a completely rewritten version of the plugin.

Bookit 0.5.0

I would suggest uninstalling the old one first if possible. The preferences have changed, so you'll need to set your output directory again and check the paths to the calibre utilities.

Please post your experiences; if there aren't any major bugs or after I fix them I'll update the feed to let other folks know about the new release.

And this is Firefox 3.0+ only.

Beowulf573 I have the plugin here and am available if you want to chat while doing a little testing. I'm running 3.0 on a Mac. Have had some success so far but also am puzzled by some lack of response that is likely settings-related. Is there a way to initiate a direct chat on this through Mobileread somewhere?

Hello, and thanks for devoting so much of your time to create something useful for all of us.

I installed bookit 0.5.0, checked calibre paths etc, but i cannot -not matter what i try- make it work for me(I have calibre 0.6beta6, under winxp with latest FF3). If i use the create ebook menu nothing happens-no lrf gets created in the output folder or is added to calibre. When i use the editor, i can only get a 0 byte sized lrf, but nothing else.

Finally i cannot view any logs, because pressing that button gives me a "Log path not set" message, but i cant see anywhere an option to set that.
