How about the colored ones? Though they are a bit more expensive.

Oh, and the ebay listing for it is still up.

SmartQ 5 & 7 Initial Impressions

Thank goodness for Saturday delivery by the USPS!

My order for the SmartQ 5 &7 arrived today from Eletroworld in China. Both units did not include their manuals but this is no problem because e World provides them online. Also, my Q7 came with a Bluetooth dongle that I was not expecting.

The only hiccup in the order/shipping process was the change in EMS tracking number by the Chinese shipper--neither Eletroworld nor I was notified but e World did track it down for me.

My order was sent via Paypal on May 26th and the package arrived on my doorstep on June 6.

I'm typing this post using an old Fellowes Stowaway USB keyboard because the virtual one on the Q7 is too cumbersome. I plugged in the keyboard and it just worked.

Wifi access is fast and has good range. I'm using the Q7 in a room where I typically get poor reception and it's doing fine--no drops.

The interface is mostly English but some parts are all in Chinese. For example, setting the clock and day/date was a chore but that is my fault for not being able to read the language!

FBreader loads fine and works just as Chippy found.

Overall, I'm very impressed with the Q7!

More later.

Thank you. I've unboxed it and it is working fine. Just like Chippy said, it was charged about 75% of the way. The form factor of the device is exactly what I was looking for. Its basically a bigger Nokia N770/N800/N810. The screen doesn't appear too bright or too dark. I kind of like the current setting although I'm still playing with it to see just how to make adjustments. I've got it working with the internet already, and wasn't too hard, although novice computer users might need some help and I'll be supplying little tutorials on how to get certain things working. Right now I'm transferring some books, music and video to the device.

P.S. The 32GB SD card I purchased from eBay works perfectly.

Great, thx for initial impressions if you could do a tutorial about remote desktop (one of the main reasons I bought it cos I would love to read my drm'ed mobi's) It would be greatly appreciated

Will do. I'll be going over the stock OS and applications and then I'll start working on remoting and customizing shortly after.

Project,

Please check my new impressions thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48455

The card is working perfectly and I got it for a decent price (at least I think so).
