I'm glad it's not just me.

I swap between pbooks and ebooks regularly because I have lots of pbooks and use the library, but yesterday I borrowed a large hardback book from the library for the first time since getting my 505.

I was reading in bed and couldn't believe how heavy it was. Then as I got more tired I couldn't increase the size of the text either although I did look for the button

Had to switch to using my reader in the end. It's really inconvenient as I only have a week to read the book - just published so only available on short loan from the library, but as I'm only going to read it once it's not really worth buying an ebook. But it was just too heavy to read comfortably.

I used to prefer hardbacks, but they're far too big now!

I started reading ebooks on a PDA quite some years ago. I went through a few different PDAs and a Nokia N800, all the while reading more and more on the desktop PC as well. The recent purchase of a netbook PC and a Jetbook reader continue the trend. I now find that I prefer to read an ebook vs a pbook.

The last book I read before getting a reader was a 1,000+ page paperback. It was heavy. I had to prop it up on a pillow to read it but that meant I couldn't shift positions in bed while I read. Consequently, it took me way too long to read it. I'd stop reading because I was uncomfortable, not because I was sleepy. Using a reader after that was an amazing experience for me. *Cue chorus of angels singing and heavenly light streaming down* I can't imagine going back. A few months ago, there was a book I wanted and it was only available in Topaz format (which I loathe). It was the worst Topaz book I'd ever seen. There were huge OCR errors in it and it was painfully slow turning pages, however it was another book that was 1,000 pages in paperback. I would rather deal with the most craptacular of all ebook copies than that again.

You could go buy a scanner and OCR SW & scan/OCR those Pbooks while your reader is gone. Then you'd have something to read when you get it back.

BTW what happened to keeping a spare?

Give people (readers) ebook readers for free to read on for one month.

Doesn't matter which brand.

Then take them away. Guarantee they'll be back in droves to buy them.

I don't read many p-books any more (just tend to have one on the go for in the bath!).

One habit I just can't get out of though from my pbook days is remembering the page number I'm up to (never did use bookmarks, I'd just glance at the page number when putting the book down and try to remember it with varying degrees of succcess). I still do that with my 505 and am forever happily surprised that I didn't need to when I pick it up again!

I'm reading a library pbook at the minute and I keep forgetting to stick a bookmark in it when I've finished reading. When I pick it up again to continue reading, I expect the book to open up at the page I left off on. When it doesn't (obviously), it takes me ages to figure out where I left off.

One of these days, we will all have to be spoon fed, because we can't even hold a real book anymore.

You just need someone to tell you to go ahead and do it! I do that all the time. I explain what I want to do and, hopefully, my husband will say, "Great idea. Go ahead and do it." It's not that I need him to give me the okay, it's just nice to know that the decision I'm making is corrobarated by someone I hold in high regard. It's the times when he says, "You want to do what?", that really frustrate me!

Talk it over with your hubby (that is, if you think he will agree with you ).

Well, we discuss any major purchase.......and for me, this is a major purchase, just for me. Like I said......the money is there, so I have no 'guilt' about charging it.

He's already okay with it, altho seriously doesn't understand why i would need one. (I dont' NEED it, as I've explained, I just WANT it 'cuz its so damn CUTE!!! And I can carry it in my purse, and pet it, and loooove it........)

I work at a publisher right now (detached to them) and they're moving office next month. They publish schoolbooks, atlasses and literary books for high school students (these are generally reprints of existing novels). Those literary books are published once a year, every year 5 different ones (or rather, 5 Dutch, 5 English and 5 French). But, not all books are sold. And some were available for free for employees (detached or own). So, I brought some books home from a very good Dutch children's book writer (sadly deceased now). Well, they were in paper, and I really wanted to read it. So, I did. The pains I had reading at the table (as Elsi said, book wouldn't stay open!), having to turn on the light in bed (I've been reading on my backlit PDA for ages), and it's not handy to take with me everywhere...

Last week, I got three more books the same way, I think I'll just destroy them and put them under the scanner (if I can get myself to undo the binding, my parents taught me to treat books with care...)
