And we're supposed to recognize that that plane is a B52 bomber, and not just a plane? Sheesh! My husband was amused when I told him that a blue pickup truck with rust, looked like one he had sold. It was the wrong brand -- but hey, it was a pickup, and blue, and rusty! They all look alike..... |

Well, you could always read the labels. Not quite like recognizing a plane. I remember, years and years ago, seeing a poster. (bear with me here.) It was silhouettes of planes, as tho you were looking up at them from the ground. Each type of plane had a different silhouette, and the idea was to be able to recognize what was flying over you. Obviously this was during WWII and the planes were war planes. I always thought that was a neat thing........to be able to glance up and know what was flying overhead. Does anyone else remember one of these? |

I remember my Dad showing them to me as a kid at a Museum (I think it was the Imperial War Museum but I am not sure) and him telling me that him and his mates used to try to learn them all. (He grew up during the war). Whenever I see one in a book or on TV I have very fond memories of my Dad telling me that story oh and just found this with a google search: it covered American, British and German planes apparently Last edited by Peverel; 06-05-2009 at 04:30 PM.

Why on earth would I take it the wrong way? If you are referring to the age thing, no, it doesn't bother me at all. I was born in '48, well after the "War to End All Wars" (Ha!) ended, but grew up with reminders all around. Its great that you have such wonderful memories of you dad.
