Hmm:
Fbreader Package manager (does it work in the version of Ubuntu currently installed ?) Useful ssh client/server (handy for admin stuff on the move) ? Tons of software (I remember reading somewhere that someone compiled the whole Ubuntu repository for arm...) Mplayer (is there some video acceleration hw on q7?) Maybe running GarnetVM (PalmOS virtual machine on Nokias Linux based tablets) ? Im already using Ubuntu od my notebook and would not mind another device with it ![]() ![]() Is there something (driver wise) that WinCE can use on this device and Linux cant ? BTW, there appears to be an arm deb package for gnash, so It may be possible to use flash on this device ? http://packages.debian.org/lenny/gnash ->between available architectures, there is arm listed and the arm packages appear to be downloadable Last edited by Melf; 06-04-2009 at 05:44 PM. Reason: Link to debian arm gnash package added. |

Some people will prefer unbuntu for its fan base, future upgrades, and vast software repository, buts its def more for the geeky do it yourself crowd in my opinion. The A700 has peaked my curiosity...I like big screens, but I dont like how it only has 2 gigs internal memory and terribad ram quantity. Has anyone figured out if eithers ram can be upgraded? |

The hardware acceleration under Ubuntu is just a matter of compiling a proper kernel, as they are doing with Mer.

You're confusing optometrist with opthamologist. An opthamologist is a medical doctor whose specialty is vision. An optometrist is someone who gives eye exams and then may sell you frames and glasses (like at Lenscrafters).
Any good opthamologist will confirm that doing a lot of reading in low light conditions can definitely cause eye problems. Whether these problems will be permanent is debatable. Bottom line: It's preferrable to read in situations that don't cause eye-strain. That's why I have a Kindle and my eyes absolutely feel differently after a few hours with it vs. a few hours on the laptop. El |

Where are my eye problems then? I've been doing it most my life. Also, I see no difference in using my Sony PRS-505 or my Nokia N770. I'm not sure its the "bottom line" but you are welcome to your opinion.
![]() So what about iPhones and iPod Touch? The iPhone has sold over 1 billion applications, from health tracking to games. Should they include warning labels telling people they will have eye problems if they use them too much? What about that new Apple tablet? It won't be eInk you know... ![]() My SmartQ 7 is in US Customs now. Maybe I'll receive it by Saturday. I'm planning to do an initial thoughts post the first 24 hours after I start to use it. About a week later, I will post a full review with screenshots and as much information about customization that I can give during that time. UPDATE: It cleared customs and may even be here as soon as tomorrow! Wohoo! Last edited by ColdSun; 06-05-2009 at 01:37 PM. Reason: Update on Shipping Status |

I swear some people have been brainwashed with the whole "e-ink is better for your eyes" campaign.
With backlight turned down to minimum and a greyish background set I find reading on lcd screen very pleasant. What would upset my eyes is the flash that happens when you turn e-ink pages. |

I'm still thinking about buying a Q7 (waiting for gchuang to import 10, waiting for coldsun to customize it..) but the launch prototype of the Crunchpad is very very nice to look at. (and supposedly 300$) |

I just got EMS shipping for my SmartQ 7. Should be here around June 8-12. YES!
Oh gads, now the wait. Any one got a suspended animation tank for me to get into to wait? So I don't drive the mailroom nuts? |

How soon after you submitted your order did they tell you it's been shipped? These guys are pretty slow. If this means they have been flooded with orders, that is a good thing for all of us.

They're sold out. I was told they won't have more until 25 June.
