It is hard to believe. A very respectful crowd at MR. More than 2 players would have made it even more interesting, but also much harder to execute.

It might not have worked with more than 2 players. The way posts go, the Xs & Os would have been played out of turn, etc. etc.

That's why I worded the first post carefully. If more than one person posted the 'next' move, only the first valid move posted would count.

True. The rule "First valid reply move in the thread is the thread of play" may have been contested since MR only records post times to the nearest minute, not second. We could have created a big international incident.

Just think if several Canadian and British members got into a game. There would be a lot of "no you first", "no you went first" "no allow me to allow you to go first"......

Thanks. It's necessary to go to the 4x4x4 board instead of a 3x3x3 board, because the 3x3x3 board is a trivial first player win.

It has been proved that even the 4x4x4 game is a first player win, given optimal play. But I didn't know that before I went to search just now!

Luckily there still isn't (as far as I know) an easy to follow optimal strategy.
