You can't really blame him, Robert. I mean, look at it objectively. You can buy your books anywhere, nearly, you have the expandable storage via SD card, and as you have said, the thing is built like a tank (I can corroborate, I juggled mine and dropped it and it's fine). Except for not having whispernet access to buy books with, (which to me is overkill anyway, sorry), the EZ Reader has a LOT of advantages over the Kindle 2.

First side shots of Pocket PRO
Quote:
Thank you, phenom!! I have been all over the internet trying to find good shots of the new Pocket PRO (V5) and all shots are essentially of the screen. I was trying to find the rumored scroll wheel. Overnight, Jinke sent me two good side shots that you may want to see... and confirmed the scroll wheel on the right-hand side. I do not yet know its full function. I will get more info on that. Anyway, I just tried and I need to change the type of file before I can post. |

Depends on user. For your basic "noob", whispernet is a good thing, if you live in the right part of the world. If you learn how to use it fast - it's good, it works. Yes, it will also lock you to one shop to spend your money, among other things, but your basic user don't care, or don't see an alternative. Knowledge is power, in this example, it gives you choice, you know you will master another system fast and you will be able to get the books you want on it.

Well, in perspective of noob to ebook readers, I'd qualify, the EZ Reader is my first device, and I've had it all of three months or so. BUT... I was and am familiar with computers (though I hate command line), and I did my homework (thanks to all of you here at MR) so I wouldn't call myself "a basic end user". pkovak has a good point - whispernet IS easy (or so I've heard) and convenient, but I DO care about having my books backed up (which is something the basic user might not think about). There are a lot of people who read a book and discard it, but I'm not one of them, which is why a Kindle just isn't for me. I want my freedom of choice as to where to buy and where I can store the book, among a myriad of other concerns.

You hate command line? Why? Do you not understand the beauty of Holy Pipe, chains of commands that make it much faster, more powerful and more precise than any icon or graphical representation can be? I will pray to Holy Pipe to enlighten you with it's knowledge!
Oh, you are speaking about windows command line don't you... OK, right, you don't understand then... ![]() Any sensible person should backup his/her/it's important files if they have a choice - and backing up books is so easy, thanks to their size. Just wait, a lot of these people will find out how important it is - the hard way. |

Take it easy. All are right!

I know Phenomshel as a really helpful person. I think she is just stating her view and I know you well state yours. Wireless is coming and we have not stopped working on it. I have not mentioned much on the EZ Reader Plus (Wi-Fi) and EZ Reader PRO (3G and more) simply because the factory has not updated me. I am assured both of these are moving along and we are trying to offer either of you the choice that you want. |

It's ok, Robert, I think he was teasing. I can USE command line. I had to learn, for certain shall not be mentioned on this forum activities. But doesn't mean I LIKE it. I used Linux for a year as my primary O/S (Fedora). Went back to Windows due to lack of Paint Shop Pro. My husband feels the same way you do about the command line being beautiful in it's simplicity. It's just not something I happen to enjoy, having a graphical user interface friendly brain set up! *grin*.

Well, to say the truth, I use Unix/Linux mostly in work, not at home, because Windows simply... work. And most programs are made for them. And I use Linux KDE too, but mostly because I made some custom scripts and created some icons, which help me connect to remote servers with two clicks. That's where command line can't win, if you doing one action over and over again, you don't have to search for correct line, you can simply click on icon.
But on the eReader side: It just occured me, RobertB, that it would be very nice of eReaders if the software comming with it had some backing up utility - something like "click on this and all your books will be downloaded from eReader and stored where you want them". Maybe even creating an archive from them, zips are widely supported and it doesn't look like it will change. Last edited by pkovak; 06-04-2009 at 01:06 AM. |

Scroll Wheel on Pocket PRO
Dear All:
It was confirmed by Jinke last night that the scroll wheel is for page advance and regress. This means you have all three: left hand buttons, right hand buttons and the side scroll wheel to navigate the pages. |

![]() I'm a bit confused about the "right hand buttons". I didn't see any. The left hand two buttons, yes, and now the scroll wheel on the right are FANTASTIC. We can use either hand. But where are the "right hand buttons"? AJ (Just waiting for the site to open to order mine!) |
