Fictionwise & Sony 505

I was browsing the Fictionwise website and it says in its help area that "Sony Reader (PRS-500 and PRS-505 will only read unencrypted MultiFormat eBooks from Fictionwise. Use the .lrf format.)

Won't the 505 also read the Secure Adobe Format (pdf & ePub)?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

My 505 reads ePUBs from Fictionwise just fine.

FictionWise does not sell Adobe ePub. It sells Adobe PDFs, which will work on the PRS-505, but no longer stocks new ebooks in Adobe PDF format. For Adobe ebooks, I suggest trying Books on Board and WHSmith.

FictionWise does now include ePub in multiformat ebooks, so you have the choice of LRF or ePub (or PDF) for multiformat ebooks.

Okay, I just want to make sure I understand. If it's not DRM'd, I can choose multi-format and have a choice of lrf, epub, or pdf. But if it's DRM'd, then I should choose to buy from Books on Board instead. Is that correct?

BUT you can buy SECURE ADOBE PDF from Fictionwise, right? I thought I had been told this before. I do prefer BooksonBoard though, only because they have newer books.

I've just purchased Mobi from them but I had to remove the DRM and then convert it to epub using Calibre.

Such is the life of a linux user. :-)

If you purchase in multi-format, why not just d/l again in epub? They allow multiple downloads.

They still sell Secure Adobe PDFs, which FictionWise calls "Secure Adobe", but they are not adding new releases to their holdings. So if they have a title you want in Secure Adobe, then by all means buy it there. However, other stores have a larger selection.

If you don't mind using multiple stores, ebookprice.info searches a dozen stores and half a dozen ebook formats. It includes FictionWise multi-format titles in its search.

With multi-format you can download and many formats as you want, so try LRF and ePub to see which you prefer.

BoB has a wider selection of Secure Adobe titles than FictionWise, and it stocks Secure Adobe ePub which FictionWise does not.

I'm running Kubuntu 8.10 here and I'm about to upgrade my work machine to Jaunty.

I used to run debian stable on my home server but haven't touched it since it had a hardware failure.
