It depends. I fixed myself a couple of macros. So it all comes down to opening the html in word and running those macros. Then saving the word document as a pdf and the work is done. I don't mind spending a couple of minutes on a book I'll be reading for days. Especially if I can loose those awful margins this way.

But for a 10 page short story that is much work...

Then I recommend you to save the short story with instapaper and add the instapaper feed to mobipocket reader enews feeds. Update, synchronize with cybook. Done.

A bit problematic since I do not use Windows.

But this procedure did not seem to convert to pdf so why would the html generated work when the original html does not work?

Instapaper uses an article extraction engine to save the bulk of text as a simple html. And while it's true that this procedure doesn't supply the output as a pdf, it should allow you to save the feed as a working mobi prc. It's not foolproof though. Some webpages might prove troublesome, depending on the design.

What a great tip! I had not heard of Instapaper before I read your post and I've just registered for it and see how well it works. Very nice service that I think I'll use for a wide variety of things. Thanks!

I understand that it takes time to come out with the new firmware and time tables can be missed in order t fix bugs. But what I don't get is that Bookeen said that they would put up on their blog a list of the new features of the forthcoming firmware. They have not. What have you to say about that?

You are absolutely right! But AFAIK they made the promise about the feature-info in some private mail to ONE user. Reminds me that simply all we know about the new FW is out of some mails to different users + lots of speculations...

The "real" problem is their non-existant official information policy - the webpage and blog haven't changed in months and are somewhat deserted (come on... FW v796 for download???).

Have they no marketing or sales people there?! At least somebody (ANYBODY) should have some minutes to post a few lines about news/delays and such on their sites...

If they were not planning on posting in their blog what new features they are planning on new firmware, why even tell one person this? All they are doing is stirring up the pot and causing themselves to have a poor reputation.

Am I ticked off at the lack of support from Bookeen? You betcha. Can they do much about it? Not really as they have demonstrated their refusal to do proper updates in a reasonable time.

To be honest, I've just about decided on making my next reader a Kindle DX - unless the BeBook 2 can be fitted with OI - love that OI!

You seem really bitter about Bookeen... What did they do to you? Did they call you at night, or send you anonymous letter?

I really don't understand people who are so negatives..

You don't like Bookeen ok.
To be critical about what and how they do their business I can understand too, but be so rude, no, really I can't understand people who spit like this on other people.

So you use a Mac or Linux and they both have simple way (and free) to generate PDF file from nearly all possible print-enabled application.

I see at least one reason for that : The person who replied to the message is not the one managing the site/blog, and took an initiative that is not followed...
I have a big experience with that, as I'm working with marketing persons that sometimes propose formations/trainings that are not feasible in the time/price they offer, just to "please" the customer !
Then it's for the teacher/trainer to deal with this situation !

They problem was to reformat it to a pdf that is readable so just printing will not work. I would be very happy to have an URL like

http://www.asimovs.com/_issue_0801/PBAlistair.shtml

and an application (command line preferable since it is faster) that generates a pdf suitable for the Cybook. The example URL is one of them that crashes my Cybook. I tested iceweasel and could not select the paper size.

The easiest way I can see here is to pipe it somehow to open office writer, there to use some script to change the page size for cybook and to save it in Oo as a pdf. I don't know what kind of DOM the Oo uses but there has to be a way how to automate the process.

I see you really don't have an idea who Derek (delphidb96) is. Maybe when you read some older posts on this forum (say from 2007 and further) you'll find out you made a very stupid remark.........

Let's leave it at that.
