I feel like whining - stupid Amazon

OK, truth is -- I'm bored, and with nothing better to do, I'm going to whine and moan.

I have a new Kindle on order, and every time I buy a book from Amazon it sends it to the new kindle, which I don't have yet, instead of sending it to my old Kindle. (I know, my problems are just awful.)

There is a drop down list that allows me to choose which Kindle to send it to at the time of purchase. The problem is that the "new" Kindle's name is the default Kindle in this list. If I paid attention this wouldn't be a problem. However, paying attention is not my strong suit.

I could also fix the problem by changing my current Kindle's name to something like "Asmodeus" so that it would appear first in the drop down list. However, I prefer whining. It doesn't help anything but it makes me feel better.

Really this all Amazon's fault. My original Kindle's name is "David's Kindle" and Amazon is calling the new one "David's 2nd Kindle" and the latter name comes first alphabetically. Thus the problem. Amazon could have called it "David's Kindle DX" an no problem. So -- stupid Amazon.

OK, better now.

You're not the only one. I asked about the ability to set a "master" Kindle shortly after receiving my 2 K2s (in addition to my K1) and was told "no can do". It's a pain.

A problem, yes, but with a work around. You can easily rename your Kindles. So, I have three Kindles .... names are Ricky's 1st Kindle, Ricky's 2nd Kindle and Ricky's 3rd Kindle.

However, I also stick a number in front of each one depending on how I want them to appear in the list order. I change the numbers when I am downloading books, so that the default will always be the book I am working with at the moment.

So, the current list might be:

1 Ricky's 2nd Kindle
2 Ricky's 1st Kindle
3 Ricky's 3rd Kindle

And, then I just rename and reorder as needed .... it's still a pain, but it's less of a pain than going through the scroll and pick every time.

My Kindles are named with my email addresses in case of loss, so unless I change my email addresses, the numbering system doesn't work for me.

You only have to use the numbering system while you are actually downloading books. You can always rename them back to your default when you are done.

The Kindle doesn't really much care what you call it .....

If you use gmail by any chance you can append anything you want to your email address using a plus like

NotMyRealEmail+1@gmail.com
NotMyRealEmail+2@gmail.com
NotMyRealEmail+3@gmail.com

I think some other email services allow for this type of thing.

That said, doesn't each kindle need a unique name?

They are unique. myemailname @ gmail.com and myemailname @ yahoo.com.

I don't understand the plus thing and I don't want to confuse anyone who might find my lost Kindle.

The point of the + thing is to allow for "sort of" aliases. The email to

NotMyEmail+1@gmail.com will go to NotMyEmail@gmail.com.

Yes, but you can change that name whenever you wish. I've done it loads of times, and I do it so that I can have a particular kindle in the default spot when I am uploading a lot of books to it.

It's been known for people to mysteriously have Kindles wind up registered on their account that don't exist. A simple call or email to their support and they will have the situation corrected. Clearly there's a flaw in their back office process somewhere.
