Many thanks, finally have a reader

Hello to everyone!
Well, after more than a few posts and many questions which forum members answered with kindness and patience - I finally have a jetBook! I thought that I should now introduce myself.

I am an American ex-pat living in Greece. I teach Computer Science and math at a small non-profit school at the university level. My husband (who is Greek) is a Greek university professor in electrical engineering.

We both love reading, in whatever language, but I am the gadget addict. I've been using my netbooks for reading, but I wanted something small enough to go around in my purse.

I've had the jetBook only 1 day, but it does everything as advertised. The screen is very readable and refreshes quickly which is neccessary for a 5" reader. My txt, rtf and epub sample books all open and display nicely. The interface is intuitive and file upload is simple drag-and-drop, didn't take any time at all to learn. I don't think I'll upgrade the firmware yet as I don't have any problems - I am very much in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" camp. I just want to read a few books and get used to using it.

I saw an eink device (Sony) for the first time last week in Germany. Looked great, but I think I'll wait for the next generation of faster controllers before I jump. Maybe if I visit the US in the fall I'll see what's available.

I enjoy following this forum, the members are interesting and so very knowledgeable about all types of elec. reading devices and portable technology in general. Thank you all for helping me stay just a tiny bit ahead of my students who get more experienced with technology every year!

"official" Welcome to MR, rgeorg! I know you will enjoy your new "toy". I have the 505 and use (and carry) it everyday. What a beautiful place to live. My son and some of his friends are planning to take a short vacation to Greece when their residency is up and before they officially start work. The closest I came was Italy, so I will have to enjoy your beautiful country through his pics.

dreams, hope your son and friend enjoy Greece and that they can visit in the summer when the weather and beaches are fantastic (although hot).

Must be good timing, as they are planning for July! They wanted the whole group to go, but most have to plan on packing to move to new job sites. It may be only 3 or 4 of them on the trip. He loves history, so I plan on having a copy of at least a few hundred pics from him.

P.S. He was the one who gave me the 505 for Christmas.

What a thoughtful son! July is the best time of the year I think. Will he stay in the Athens+islands, or will he travel around a bit?

I don't know yet, as he hasn't let me in on all the arrangements. He is still working 7 day weeks and is pretty exhausted at the end of the day. Usually, when I call him after I get home, he is pretty much half asleep. I'll probably catch up once he is off the 7 day shifts.

Don't be jealous, there are positives and negatives in most any living situation. (But Greece is really nice! I was never much of a snow person.)
